What's weird is that in the USA, Mercedes-Benz calls packages with AMG wheels and other more aggressive trinkets (e.g., red seat belts) "Sport" packages.

In other countries, the more aggressive setups are called "AMG" packages and get AMG floor mats too.

MB is more protective of the AMG brand in the States. With how much we argue about the difference between M and M Sport, etc., I can see why they just eliminate the confusion by using the "Sport" package terminology.

Not that everybody on this forum doesn't know this but:

Long before there was ever an M division, BMW created the quintessential sports sedan, the 2002. The 2002 tii or the rare 2002 turbo was the one to have. No one cared what it was called as it drove really really well even if it did look like a shoe box. If, in today's world, BMW wants to plaster little M badges over all of their cars, why should we care? If your bimmer performs the way you want it to - its all good. My 335ix M-sport has lots of punch and very good handling. However, it isn't a track car - I would get an M3 or an M4 for that. I know what my car is and isn't.

I think the M235i will actually be a pretty good track car as well. And its price is much more approachable.
