They are weighing exceptions to auto but only mention Ford, GM and Stellantis. The exceptions are only for one month according to the article. Takeaway is this is all still fluid and TBD.

Total shit show. I'm just pissed my car hasn't cleared customs yet even though the ship moored in Galveston last Thursday. The original estimate is that it would be unloaded by Mar 2.

I just spoke with my SA and she couldn't offer any more information other than what Genius is telling me, which is that it is being transported to the VPC, even though that is like 300 yards away from where the ship was moored last week. That was supposed to happen by Mar 4, but is still showing this status for now.

My only hope is that either they don't collect the tariff because the mechanism is not yet in place or one of these delays happens again. Very stressful ending to what should have been a fun experience.

The car is literally 5 hours away by transport to my dealer at this point.

If the car is at the VPC I would think it’s cleared customs. Customs is at the port itself and you’d think all that would need to be completed before it’s handed over to BMW. Status will show as “In Transit” until BMW gets it and transfers it to the VPC. At least that’s my understanding, based on talking to my CA and 2 different reps at Customer Relations (since my car is currently in the exact same situation - at the VPC in Brunswick). Anyone feel free to correct me if I’ve got it wrong.

Edit: Sorry if I misunderstood and they’ve confirmed your car isn’t actually at the VPC yet. I didn’t think “in transit to VPC” was a status they could see. I would think they can either see it as at the port or at the VPC.

According to a Genius person I spoke with and my SA, once it is at the VPC is when it clears customs, this is part of the "Processing" and they also check for damage (and repair if any is found) and then assign it to a carrier to transport it to the dealer.

Very weird. We’ve each got BMW people telling us the complete opposite thing. Of course, yes, everyone’s agreed that not every CA or Genius rep has the actual facts on everything. I’ve gotten bad info plenty of times from Genius people who swore what they said was the gospel truth. Clearing customs before going to the VPC made sense to me, since the VPC is a BMW NA owned facility. I wouldn’t think you’d have customs people working there, and I’d think customs would want to collect whatever they’re owed before they let BMW drive it off to the VPC.

Who knows. Maybe one of our insiders on here can set the record straight. Or maybe I’ll find out when my car gets to the dealer.

My order status was at step 14 (in transit) for about a week until yesterday it went back to Step 13 (At Port). According to others, that mean my order reached the US Port yesterday, the same day the tariffs had allegedly gone into affect. I’ll keep everyone posted on pricing when I take delivery.

You may be right. Tariffs have been delayed for one month. Which they can extend depending upon strategy. That power bump is about to become way more expensive. Sucks.
