I admit as a white male, I'm a little curious to know what a very, very white male sounds like / why different from other ethnicities, but up to you if you wish to share, you can also PM me if you prefer. Just curious how colour comes through.

But I do seem to recall him saying he was Mexican, and he had at one point posted a few pictures, all of which supported that. He did seem to love America though.

Is that possible in OT? Or is it simply following the tested and true formula of ever migrating and evolving that most threads follow in OT...or they die. This thread wants to live man.

Whiny, white men own the whiny sound these days. It's like a mosquito epidemic but happening in our livingrooms.

This opinion was not at all influenced by the fucktard I spent an hour with just now.

"Its raining so much, can't we reschedule this training?" "No."
"But it's so early too, why can't we do this later?"
"Hmm, I have kids, dogs of my own, a bitch of a mother to take care of and 5 elderly neighbors i do the grocery shopping for. This six am time is the only free hour i have every friday to train your idiot arse to handle your dog so take it or leave it. No refunds" "but I'm not paying you" "exactly"

I'm very patient in the early hours of the morning. A real sweetheart.

Yes, I might have to tap you in a few years for some dog advice...hoping to get a few years at least out of my current dog. My current dog has a life expectancy of 10-12 years, but he's in his 8th year already and completely torn his ACL in the one leg. A little frustrating because "due to COVID" nobody seems to be doing their job and we can't get a return call to get him fitted for a brace which should help him. Anyways, really hoping he doesn't blow the other leg, if so, we'll have to put him down.

Oh poop, how big is the dog? Alc injuries on bigger breeds is my second favourite next to only bad backs.

And don't, I don't know my shit, not really. I've trained them a lot but basically I'm a Kleenex stand for unsure people who think their dog is the problem. And also, hubby told me yesterday we are getting a dalmatian just because I've not replaced Kissa. Such a nice man... bought himself the one breed I've hated for years.

He's a Lab, about 62-65lbs, we've trimmed him down from the 70lbs he was rocking so he's actually good on the weight side of things. Such a stupid accident too, I threw a ball for him over a ditch into this field, and he misjudged the incline of the ditch at the bottom and totally bailed. That resulted in a partial tear which we tried to manage, and he was doing a lot better, but then he was off leash one day and decided to do this crazy run (nothing even happened that would make him that excited) and wound up completely tearing it and not weight bearing on the one back paw.

So old tripod over there is eventually going to get fitted for a brace if we can get anyone to call us back. Apparently they have to sedate them to make sure the fitment is correct, so this is not inexpensive. But if the brace lets him put some weight on it that would be good to take it off the other leg.

Yeah, also swimming. Swimming will help him to use his muscles in a more balanced way. I'm in noway an expert in these injuries, but labs and swimming is a must, just as it is with german sheps.

Why did the vet recommend no surgery especially now that he is slimming down so well? Do you want shit for him to do and for tricks for the kids to teach him that'll boost his mental stage? I swear by making kids do the shit for us.
I've trained dogs all my life. My personal preference is towards article spitz such as the Finnish Spitz (one of those taught me to walk, and walked me to and from school every day till 14th grade. An absolutely fucking horrible breed to train, they love one person and don't give a fuck about anyone else), Karelian Bear dog, which is probably the best breed there is, and of course the german shep. I hate above all else Jack Russel terriers (currently owning my second of those) and all retrievers (k, I hate their owners. Fucking idiots.) And dalmatians. Those just fucking suck all around (just paid for one yesterday).

In my defence, Jrs are seen as hard core fucktards to train because they're so into their hunting. The finnish breeds are too smart to be trained, they train their owners, and all retrievers are too social for me. So basically I hate everything easy to train, but mostly I hate the folks who think they don't need to do shit cuz the dog is easy to train. Dalmatians are just annoying, even when they just breath, they're annoying.

Yeah, over the summer I had him swimming too, he was honestly getting better. Which is why we were more relaxed letting him off leash...and then he does his crazy run and makes it 100% worse.

The vet did present the surgery option, however, we are disinclined to go that route for a few reasons:

1. No guarantee it won't tear again, and surgery or no surgery, there is still a 40-50% chance the other leg will blow according to the vet (this surprised me).

2. Apparently there can be little complications from it (usually easy to repair by the sounds of it, but another $1K in work if you get the complications)

3. Surgery for one leg will cost about $5,500...but given the odds of the other leg going, you basically need to budget $11K.

4. He's an older dog, if he were younger and had more of his life ahead of him, I'd be more inclined to pursue the surgery.

5. He doesn't act like he's in pain, aside from holding his foot up, still the same gentle dog, no change in his behaviour in other regards, still thinks he ought to be taken on walks and gets very excited when he thinks he's going...but is constantly depressed because we leave him behind.

So if we can brace it and he can put some weight on it, I can start taking him for walks again, which he basically lives for. That and tennis balls. Which he isn't permitted anymore...no bursts of movement for him.

Omg how can you bring money up in a time like that!!

Sorry, felt like I should work on my bitch skills and this was a great opening.

Even without money spent being that huge, I'd be inclined to go your path. If the dog is not in pain, I'd let him enjoy his time instead of weeks of rehab. Swimming is the way to go and if you have one of those dog swimming gyms near you, I'd go for a winter membership there. It will help his supporting muscles to handle the extra stress.

Overall, agreed with points all of your points.

No, no, that was great! The only detraction I see, is that it sounded a little effeminate. Other than that, solid work!

I've watched dogs in wheelchairs in the usa, that's not the way to go. I spent thousands of hours while training my last dog and I loved Kissa to bits, but she had been acting strange and a simple xray showed her brain had a weird shadow.

I put her down the next day. I was not going to even considering treating a tumour in her brain with tiny kids. A leg, I would have since she was 3 when she died.

Kissa was trained to take down grown men so my kids would've had zero chance to defend themselves if she would've gone for them. Kinda made it an easy decision.

I'll be working on my condescending bs. Clearly I need my ball fur to be fluffed to perfection before commenting in this shit.

Oh, my great aunt's dog tore an ACL a few years back. The dog was small, my aunt was nearing mid 70's. Then I told her go go for the surgery since she needed the dog. The vet agreed and I absolutely adore her ethics. She called me to ask exactly how instrumental the dog was to the old lady. She didnt do the surgery to the dog, she was helping the old lady.

I told her the truth that my great aunt prolly couldnt live without the dog so she did the surgery. The dog lived on for 3 years. As hard as it is to torture animals to benefit us humans, at times some finds good vets who see us all both worthy of the ear we breathe.

And Joekerr there are PLENTY of tripod dogs who go on walks every day.

My Hound of the Realm is now 8 years into her life with hip dysplasia. They wanted to do either total hip replacement ($8k, no movement/weight bearing for 10-12 WEEKS) or just cut the ball out of the joint ($4k, 2-4 weeks restriction on movement/weight) We chose option 3, take her home and leave her be. She hops most time, but when she gets the zoomies in the back yard, it's all paws on deck!

Cutting off the ball of the femur, and then just letting her deal with that seemed like horrible animal abuse.
