Put in my order during Thanksgiving week and got a call from my CA that I got a Production #. So about 15 weeks from order to Production #.

Just curious what is the average time from this point to being built to arriving at the dealership?

What I've been able to glean from all the various posts is ~3 months.

I ordered basically the same time you did but got my allocation in Jan. My build finished production around Feb 22nd (production is about 1 week) and it's been Ready For Transport since then. I'm expecting early May delivery.

Picked up my car a few days ago, here's my whole timeline:

- Placed in allocation bank: 9/29/2022
- Allocation received: 11/7/2022
- Week 51 production given on 11/28/2022
- VIN received: 12/7/2022
- Expected production date: 12/17/2022
- Exterior body assembly: 12/16/2022
- Assembly in progress/QC/Final assembly: 12/19/2022
- Ready for Transport: 12/27/2022
- Awaiting Carrier Assignment: 2/8/2023 (Actually made the ship on 2/4/2023, mygarage didn't update until later)
- In Transit: 2/8/2023
- At Port: 2/17/2023
- In Transit: 3/2/2023
- At Dealership: 3/2/2023
- Pickup: 3/4/2023

Worth every second of wait! The ride is incredibly smooth all the way around. I've put about 250 miles on it since Saturday, most of those spent in Eco/Comfort with some in Sport. My one gripe (if you could even call it that) is that the steering feel is odd, but the sensation goes away quickly.

FINALLY Ordered my Car!!

I was 5th in line back in Mid September 2021, and I just got my allocation last week and officially ordered my Car. They told me they get 1-2 Allocations a month, and sometimes 0. So, I checked in every 30-Days or so.

Mid Sept - Put down Deposit
Mid Oct - Moved up Two Spots, now 3rd in Line
Mid Nov - No Allocations
Mid Dec - Moved up One Spot, now 2nd in Line
Mid Jan - Moved up One Spot, now 1st in Line
Mid Feb - No Allocation... BUT GOT THE CALL ON 2/28 that we got it!!

Estimated to be built in April and delivered in June. Fingers Crossed!

To be continued...

Sounds like we’re in the same boat! Finally got confirmation that mine will be going into production 4/14 and hopeful for delivery in June.

Your car can sit in that state for 6 months. It all depends on when your dealer had a build allocation. Call BMW genius hotline. If you have a confirmed allocation they will be able to give you the build week of the car. My dealer was clueless I called BMW and now I know my car is being built week 15 which is April 10th-14th.

Thank you and everyone else providing info/suggestions...

I called the BMW Genius hotline and with production number gave me the build week of the car. They gave me week 15th also. So week of April 9th.

Keep checking for a VIN to be issued. Once you have that, build is fairly quick. If build goes without a hitch, the next possible issues are waiting for a ship, loading and the trek to Brunswick. Then it getting into port, off loading, inspecting and waiting for a truck to take it to the dealership.

All in all, about 7-10 weeks from VIN being issues to arrival at the dealership (mine took almost exactly 7 weeks from VIN to arrival at dealership last year, August 25, 2022 to Oct 11, 2022).

I walked into the dealer, car was in the showroom.
Had a couple days to think about buying it, put down deposit, waited a week for the new reg to start and drove it home.
Even paid under list for it.
Plenty of M240i x drives about at UK dealers

Reallly? Define “plenty”? There are zero in the US. Every single car that is listed on the BMW website is in production and already spoken for. I have heard a few people get lucky like you however assuming there are “Plenty” of them because you got lucky is an erroneous assumption.

It's possible that they allocate and send more 2-series to Europe than to US. I think there is more of a market for smaller coupes in Europe so I wouldn't be surprised if they send 2 cars for every 1 they send here.

Yeah. That's why I wouldn't be surprised if the ratio was more like 3:1.

Man, I've only discovered the M240 for about a year and in that time I may have seen... THREE 2 series on the road? And 2/3 were probably 230s. The couple of other 240s I saw I had to run to the dealer to see and sit in one before they were snatched away within hours.

Will be interesting to see total cars sold here.

All European big markets (Germany, UK, France, Netherlands, Austria, Italy) have units in stock, you can check their respective websites and look for new cars in stock. For example, right now bmw.de has 10 M240i/ix listed

Regarding total allocations US vs EU, for sure the are more for EU, the G42 lineup in Europe includes from a 218i to the M240i, total numbers only of M240i will be pretty close or even higher in US, but in the whole G42 lineup not.

Just to compare apples to apples...Europe is a continent and United States is a country. You should compare Europe to North America (population is still greater in Europe by about 75,000,000 but at least the comparison is more accurate).

So, today is day 86 at Status code 165 (In Transit from USA to Bremerhaven).

The most frustrating part of all this is the fact that no-one at BMW can tell me exactly where my car is, or what the plan is to get it shipped out of Continental America to Australia.
It left the factory and I have had the VIN since mid-November 2022. I have seen in other forums that guys have had their cars come out of the factory after that date and have been told that their cars are already on boats, heading to Australia. Even worse... if it makes it on a boat today, it is still at least two months away from the dealership.

6 months is absolutely ridiculous to transport a new car from Mexico to Australia and I am nearly at the stage of letting the frustrations get to me.

I looked just now and the UK had 23 M240i shown on the New Car Locator, most for delivery in 1-3 weeks and a couple at 5-7 weeks. Not sure whether that can reasonably be described as "in stock" though. I guess it means "expected to be in stock shortly"

That’s how I got my car.
Saw a car on the website due in a 4-8 week delivery time line. 12th Jan called the dealership the car was destined for. It arrived at the dealer for my collection on 14th Feb but I waited until 1st March to collect with the new plate issue.

Did you know for sure that your car pass thru Bremerhaven?
You can search importinfo.com by foreign port "veracruz" and notify party "BMW Australia LTD" and there are some info about M240ix and other cars in vessel "Toscana" and vessel "Arc Resolve"

If you know for sure that it went to Bremerhaven check vessel "Toronto" (company wallenius wilhelmsen) if your car was built mid January or early, my car arrives past weekend to Spain from Bremerhaven (route Veracruz-Bremerhaven-Spain) in that vessel and it's final destination is Australia.

I was using autotrader as my source, currently 16 m240i cars available.

Just for info, I traded my M2 comp for the M240i.
I drove my M2c for 42,000 miles and can honestly say the 2023 M240i is a better car all round.

I'm afraid I have more bad news for you. It's likely to get delayed in Melbourne before it reaches you in the west. Mine is a late October build, finally got on a ship in January (North American ports are logjammed, reportedly) and it's now sitting in the ocean outside Melbourne waiting for quoted 4-6 weeks before the ship can dock. There's a huge delay on stink bug extermination under Australia's biosecurity laws - not just BMWs, all cars. Unsure why it's such a delay in Melbourne though - the ship has already been through Brisbane and was only delayed a few days in Sydney (Port Kembla, actually). I'm hoping for a mid-late April delivery - I'm leading a BMW club road trip at the end of that month and if the BMW isn't here they'll be following a MINI. OTOH stink bug season apparently runs from Sept to April so maybe you won't get quite so impacted - I hope not for your sake.
