The G87 M2 is clearly a budget sports car that one would buy for the cheap price. Deep down everyone realizes what a chump car this is with embarrassing specifications like the weight and 0-60. Plus the detuned engine…Pathetic!!!

I'm honestly confused as to why they enlarged the grills on pretty much every model except this one? It must have been a deliberate departure from that design aesthetic? Fuck could be from the all the negative opinions form the G8X release?

And the rear tails are comically small.
They kept the NON-Ms with same grille motif - 1 series, 320/330/340, and 8 series all have the same.

In fact, if you look at it broadly, they enlarged mostly the SUVs, the 7 series and of course the M3/4

So it seems, the design language is more aligned to the overall size of the car

Looks better than the leaks. Toronto Red and Brooklyn Gray are the colors. I'm not a fan of that blue. Side vents are missing. Won't be surprised if it's a M Performance option. Need more info on the Comp Package.

For sure but I wouldn't think I would ever lump M3s in with the larger models.

If the price was equal, who would take an M2 vs a Cayman S (with Sport Chrono and PASM)

No one who owns an F87 CS wants this car. We wanted to want to sell our CS for this car, and after the announcement, we don't. That's the problem here.

If you compare press releases, the quoted figures for the M2 Comp were 4.2 DCT and 4.4 6MT. The new one is faster and doesn’t have a 2000’s Chevy quality interior, I think that’s progress. This isn’t even the comp.

https://www.press.bmwgroup.com/globa...79885EN/415274

Also, suddenly people care about 0-60? Every G80/2 thread people whine about how it doesn’t matter, lol

I doubt the base G87 will outperform the F87CS.

The weight is a serious thing to consider - it will be interesting to see how it feels. The steering, suspension, and especially tire tech is going to be better than the previous OG M2 and M2C, but I’m guessing it will be the G87C that gives the F87CS a run for it’s performance money.

That, which I totally agree with, and it's a great way for BMW to differentiate their cars... if you're spending $90k on an M4, you don't want it to look like a $60k M2. If you care about that sort of thing...

Mercedes has struggled for a decade (longer?) to differentiate their lineup except perhaps the boat sized S class and the G wagon - the GLC/GLE/GLS or take the C63AMG v E63AMG... nearly impossible to tell. Audi too with the A8 v A6, only a discerning eye could determine what length of sausage and same applies to their SUVs.

So if you care about status or telling people how much money you spent, then this is a nice thing to have for your six figure X7 v the $65k M2.

Or if you don't care about that, it's nice to have a different look to your garage... or if you HATE one grill v the other, you have choices!

BMW is by making a car that is somehow worse than the car it's supposed to be better than.

Weirdly antagonistic tone to this thread for debating looks which are so subjective.

My two cents on the exterior - I don't initially like it as much as I did the F87 but I do like it. It is certainly more aggressive, for better or worse. I think that aggression looks good in places but awkward in others.

I wish I could have optioned bucket seats or at least cognac leather interior on my M2C. The M sport seats look good too. I like the curved screen but don't really like the new digital gauges.

I don't think there's enough here to make me trade mine in...but to be fair I wasn't looking to go from one M2 to another. If I was new to the M2, I'd be tempted to pick up one of these over the F87. But I might hold out for the Comp or CS.

Guys/gals, let's look at this in a more positive light, this is a M4 that has a slightly shorter wheelbase, isn't the size of a 6 series, and doesn't look like complete shit, in today's M world, that's a major win.

I like the cut of your jib. Following that BMW should make a 4 door M2 and call it a M2+2.

Shorter wheelbase M3.

I would have to hold that thought to see what this car actually weighs.

Scully is right again. I have a DCT M2 CS with roughly 10K miles and I don’t want the G87 M2.

The F87 M2 CS clearly outperforms the G87 M2 with lower weight, better 0-60, better handling, better looks, etc. Please do your research and stop arguing facts. The G87 M2 is awful.
