It's not rectangular. You and a few others are blind. If you look closely, it angles under the bumper. The bad picture quality coupled with the diffuser being painted gloss black somewhat obscures the shape.
True…but barely visible diffuser, unlike past M2's. The thing is so small you got to be directly behind the vehicle to notice it. The more I digest these leaked images, the more issues I find with the design in general. The blockiness of the body geometry does not lend itself well to such a small vehicle. It works for the XM, but not so much here IMO. There's just an overall lack of continuity and cohesion between surfaces and body lines; all appears forced and abrupt. Perhaps the official reveal will offer a more refined and finished looking vehicle.

My thoughts are to reserve judgment until the full reveal on 10/12, and then even trying to be patient enough to wait until I see one in the flesh.

I turned my pitch fork into a pruninghook after I actually saw the G42 in person, and now it occupies a place in my stable next to the 1 M.

My prayer until then is maybe the 50th anniversary emblem will save the day for the backend.

Wow!

That * birthday bash explosion of fun colors all over the place* is the color I want for my M2. The leaked * bluish greyish felling sick color * from the recent leaked images I do not like. Lets party!

And i had to laugh about cheap interior comments - BMW is the king of cheap interiors and cost cuts. Enjoy the M2, and to a lesser extent the Transformer G series M2.
Felt very anemic. Granted I was driving a V10 M5 at the time so most cars felt anemic. I don't know if new Porsches have more grunt. I just feel they are overpriced for what they are. I am looking at Vettes these days. The C8 is superb although not as practical as these M cars are.

I'm using my imagination to picture it without those red M4 CSL stripes. Looks promising in this render. Won't know for sure until the reveal. I need a 3D view, like a video to know for sure. But this look miles better than the leaked pics.

Don't know why this render has that spat on the rear wheel arch. Won't be on the car.

Your logic is flawed. Numbers sold is one thing. The number of daily driven examples is another. You're lying to yourself. Daily drivability favors the car with a full sized trunk, rear seats, rear folding seats, seating for four adults, etc. Nobody confuses what either car offers, and I wouldn't consider a 911 a "bargain" by any means. After all, Porsche price gouges beyond belief. They charge like $200 for a fuckin' gloss black "911" badge………and I was one of the dummy enthusiasts who paid for it, among other overpriced options.

…and if you've never sat in a base 911 without any upgraded leather packages, you'll understand completely why I likened it to a 328i.

You're a Porsche fan boy (…not necessarily a bad thing on the surface; I'm one as well, but just living in reality) who is being unrealistic about true Porsche ownership, Porsche culture, how people use a 911, etc. I don't think anybody confuses M2 potential with 911 potential. The core discussion about daily drivability favors the car with more useful attributes.

Well, but surely neither will laser rear-lights or an M2 CSL badge for now at least.
The side skirts are also different, as is the addition of the "M fender" compared to the leaks.
So I think it can fall into artistic freedom.

Yeah, I was mostly focused on the rear bumper as I’m sure most are.

Your opinions on the 911s capabilities and uses do not equal fact. Plenty of people who daily much more compromised cars - based on your criteria - and are 100% happy about it. Just because you don't see it that way, doesn't make it so.

This tangent needs to end so we can simply discuss the G87.
