RS5 uses the ZF8HP, one of the best transmissions in the industry.

I loved my S5 but the transmission was quirky at slow speeds and that aggravated me so much. Took it to the dealer and they told me that's how it is. It was only the shift from 2nd to first or first to second that was clunky but in stop and go traffic in socal it was just annoying as hell.

Plus for me I'd rather have the V8. The Lexus V8 sound is underrated and it'll run forever.

I can confirm that the 2nd gear to 1st gear shift in the RS5 is jerky (similar to the S5), but it can be completely negated by a $30-50 ($100 at the high end) transmission mount insert. Literally takes 5-10 mins to install and smooths out that gear change perfectly. I honestly think Audi tuned it to be that way to give the feeling of a DCT, but it was more annoying than anything.

Yeah between the dealership telling me "it's how it is" and the audi forums telling me the same thing I was like nope not something I want to deal with if most of my time is stuck in traffic.

I'll also say this. I regret selling it so fast. I did love the car. There wasn't another thing I didn't like about it. It was super comfy, had plenty of power, AWD, digital display was super nice and I loved how you could configure it to be exactly how you like it and also got really good gas mileage if I wasn't driving it like a crazy person lol.

Perhaps I should have tried that transmission mount first, I might still be driving it as a daily.

I was only talking about how beautiful the car is. The lines on an S5 or RS5 sportback are great, for a 4-door. F80 M3 good as well. Gulia. Lots of good ones. I wouldn't call the IS ugly and I liked some of the iterations of it...but there are some good lookers in this category of 4 door sedans IMO.

Oh yeah I completely agree. I love the look of the RS models, especially the RS6 and 8. One of the main reason I bought my S5 was the looks. I think Audi did a great job with them.

Had to throw in an edit. I think the one thing I can't get over is how everything in the RS6/7 is a touch screen. I get it the way the car world has been going but I just can't with everything being a screen.

Either way, really nice choice, we all know the Lexus will serve you reliably and this particular trim is even extra resistant to 'normal' market depreciation; I myself am looking at IS500s, IS Fs, and GS Fs when I turn in the M550i next year.
I had a GSF couple years ago and it was a fantastic car. The N/A V8 engine with an Apexi midpipe and Toms catback exhaust sounded phenomenal.

Well. It was my car for a day. Popped over to California for a week and took this through the Malibu canyons.

Base Carrera so not particularly fast. Nice car overall though. My biggest complaint is that it sounds like a vacuum cleaner. It’s amazing how this detracts from the enjoyment. 2nd is that the seats give you back ache. Decent steering. Good handling. Cheapish interior. Have to look around the steering wheel to see how much fuel you’ve used

The drive was fun. Especially the one way Tuna road. LA traffic there and back was not that bad despite the usual LA nutters.

I had no intention of ever changing out the 763m wheels on my CS as I think they are the best stock BMW wheel ever, but never say never I guess. Still not sure I like the look of this setup better than the 763m wheels, but will run for a bit to run down the Cup2s then see how I feel for the next round of tires.

It's not "quirky" it's just stout. The 2-1 downshift at slow speed in my Hellcat is hard. It is what it is. I'll deal with it for a good trans. I am sure it could be helped with a tune, but not worth the $ for something I do not race.

Maybe performance is not for you.

Do you have to use the screen to do simple things like where the HVAC air is coming from? One of the few things I hate in my Hellcat. I want a button or knob for simple things like that

In the RS6 and RS7 everything is a touch screen. There are two screens to control all the things.

At least they kept one knob, the volume control knob. You can skip tracks with it as well lol.
