So - I didn't see mention of blind spot sensors or 360* surround cameras. Kinda bummed about that because it's always a sticking point with my wife and our cars, but happy HUD is there now (I miss HUD from my F80 and F30 and our other non-BMW SUVs).

The styling in the production photos looks less awful than the spyphoto shots, but I'm not 100% sold yet.

Also - who do I have to bribe to get MBB or Tanzanite on a M2?

Anyone ever do the M Driver’s package? Is it worth $2500?

So it seems, the design language is more aligned to the overall size of the car
That, which I totally agree with, and it's a great way for BMW to differentiate their cars... if you're spending $90k on an M4, you don't want it to look like a $60k M2. If you care about that sort of thing...

Mercedes has struggled for a decade (longer?) to differentiate their lineup except perhaps the boat sized S class and the G wagon - the GLC/GLE/GLS or take the C63AMG v E63AMG... nearly impossible to tell. Audi too with the A8 v A6, only a discerning eye could determine what length of sausage and same applies to their SUVs.

So if you care about status or telling people how much money you spent, then this is a nice thing to have for your six figure X7 v the $65k M2.

Or if you don't care about that, it's nice to have a different look to your garage... or if you HATE one grill v the other, you have choices!
Impossible to tell for most people but for enthusiasts
not so much. I just don't get having to be so radically different. AMG does it with big red/silver brakes and all black exterior trims and such. They don't necessarily have widely different grilles/aesthetics on their performance cars vs no -performance.

MB is diluting AMG with all the 43/53 models. Before it was just 63s but we see what they and BMW are doing with their performance line. Slapping them on any and every model.

Definitely want to see this thing in person, but it might have benefited with a similar % less on the boxy front.
I went back and looked at my e93 grill, and I would argue it was 25% too small.

MotorTrend's hot-off-the-press article on the M2 is "M3 power without the Weird M3 looks" which is misleading and offensive to M3's everywhere. First, it doesn't have the M3's power; and second, looks or appreciation of looks are in the eye of the beholder.

We can argue on for days and days and years about style; when we look back on this era I think we'll have more appreciation for the cues. Like I said, the e90 looks relatively boring in comparison to the g80.

All it does is raise the top speed from 155 to 177 mph

That's up to you whether you think it's worth

The G80/G82 is unique and going to be viewed as a masterpiece in the future. I'm not kidding either, and I hated it originally.
I'll keep mine, grille and all. First leak I saw, I seriously said, "they're not doing that, are they?" But I never hated it. It's a master piece.
That's a damn ugly car mate!!
Not as ugly as the m2. And then catch me if you can.
Imagine having to trade that beautiful digital dash for those two EV screens? And I own an iX. Couldn't imagine that dash in a sports car.

Only one lusting after this M2 are people who can't afford the Porsche they want or someone in their 20s and this is their first performance car.

What do folks mean by it looks better than the leaks?
The leaks were absolutely spot on - it's the exact same car.
Only thing is that BMW has more time, money and equipment to capture images that flatter the car the most.

This one will have to be seen in person for final judgement.

And it seems like BMW only added Toronto Red for the launch due to the negative reactions the blue was causing. While it does look better in red, both look plasticky and lego like to me - as someone said earlier - like they were 3D printed.

I'm reserving judgement cos when I first saw the M240i, I didn't think it was 'great'. Good looking car yes, but not a best hits from BMW. However, I later on observed that it had significant road presence for its size. This car may be that way too - more impressive in motion/on the road.

We'll see how it looks in the flesh.

That is the point of the small M car. For old people to hopefully have made something of themselves over the years so they can continue pouring money into the company, while appealing to the younger audience to get them started somewhere. Judging by your forum garage, you have done that extremely well.

So in part, thank you for your service! Thank you for pouring money into a brand. I think it is time, and seems like many would agree with me as well, for you to "upgrade" to something more expensive since that seems to be a benchmark for you. The "young" ones, and/or the "poor ones" will be enjoying these cars quite nicely.

I'm sure the Quandt's have already reached out personally to you to offer their gratitude as well.

Everything you said is true; however, I don't think it's a fair comparison to compare your CS to the base G87 M2.

Once they announce/release the G87 M2 CS, I'm sure the performance will be on par/better.

With that said, I'd still rather have an F87 M2 CS.

As you mentioned, probably because the red looks a little better on it than the blue.

First saw the M240i in person the day I went to pick up my X3 M40i. If I didn't need the extra space I would have refused delivery and get me that 2 series.

If this M2 has the same or better presence in person than that M240i, it will sure be my first M car.

If i would own a CS i would look for a new car either.
Better 0-60 yes on paper at least for now, better handling i dont think so, better looks is a personal preference, etc ?
I would bet on it the G87 will have a faster laptime on the Nürburgring but we will see in a few months.

Hmmmm....really? You're wrong on both counts.

I'm sure that I'm one of the many on here who could easily afford a Porsche (or 3), but they aren't our cup of tea. Especially at the price Porsche dealers want, loaded up with lard and needless options.

And, I'm in my 50s and have had 9 Bimmers, including 7 Ms. Had several Mustangs (and a 944) before that. So it's most definitely NOT my first performance car.

But hey, we love in a democracy. You're entitled to say you don't like it. Just don't cast aspersions on the rest of us.

not so much.

Good points. And now AMG has gone completely off the rails with their 6000 pound 4 banger C63 hybrid. Insane.

There's value in being a "sleeper." I like to think my car is sort of incognito with its black M on BSM (if only I could figure out how to paint the competition black). And there again BMW has differentiation for buyers within the range - you can alternatively select exotic colors to stand out.

As sleepy as I think my car is, enthusiasts everywhere notice it. I've had a lot of attention (mostly unwanted) in a very short period of time.

Way better than the leaks (though far from perfect), but color offerings are terrible (again).

Tanzanite on this car, skyscraper or a slew of other colors would be a total game changer! Doubt there will be the option to go individual.

Also somewhat shocked at how heavy it is relative to the f87 (+500lbs). Has their been confirmation on when the comp package will be released? Presume it'll lose the manual?

If anything speaks to me, it's the rear fender flares. That back quarter panel is impressive.
