are are all M badges considered "fake" when they are not on true M cars like M3 and M5?
It wouldn’t offend me if someone retro fitted m fender badges to their US spec m sport Gx, technically I suppose they may be considered ‘fake’ though.

BMW m sport or m tech in old money come/came with m steering wheel, m gear knob, m door cills, m sport/tech body kit, front door trim or wing m badging, sports seats & sports suspension, they didn’t come factory fitted with M boot or M front grill badging…so I wouldn’t consider any m sport or m tech bmw to be ‘fake’

As for those that slap M3/4/5 badging on their 3/4/5 20d’s or 3/4/5 40is that’s fake M badging…and don’t even get me started on those ‘M’ tricolour grill stripes

Thanks!

I think U.S. BMW buyers really get screwed over a lot... in most parts of the world, BMW gives the buyer the free option to delete badges during production.

Debadging is the same thing as fake badges. One is adding to appear better and one is removing to appear worse.

Maybe some of us just prefer the uncluttered look of a debadged boot lid/tailgate

Maybe some people love the look of an M badge on the boot lid/tailgate.
-not me, but the logic is the same-

then there's this... it was re-badged, de-badged and then finally re-badged back to a BMW... or something like that...

I can’t believe someone put a BMW logo on their Supra. Amazing. So the Supra is based on a Z4 but the development and fine tuning were done by Toyota. They should’ve used the BMW 50th Anniversary logo to make it an even more special anniversary edition.

I sat in one at a Toyota dealer while waiting for them to do an oil change on my Lexus. The Supra's interior felt like 95% BMW to me.

It does look and feel like a BMW. Idrive was probably a shock to new non-BMW owners whereas we’ve been playing around with Idrive for at least 15 years now.

iDrive was introduced with the E65 7 Series in 2001 (followed by the E60 5 Series in 2004), so 22 years.

My first time using Idrive was when I got an e60 5 series loaner when my ‘09 M3 was in for service. I should have qualified my statement by saying my first experience with Idrive was ~15 years ago

I know. I stated above the Supra was based on the z4. However, it should not have bmw hood and trunk logos

That’s like those VW with Audi emblems.
Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever seen an Audi with fake Sline badges.

It isn't, but this M badging actually looks fake. Hate the size difference.
