I agree, you won't be able to notice the difference with a 20hp bump. I sure wouldn't be able to tell the difference unless I had a visual reference like drag racing another G87. But it's not just marketing, it will make more power. They will continue to make incremental changes to keep the car relevant. Power bump, colors, options, etc. It's all about their bottom line. That said, the AT in addition to the 20hp bump is also getting 37lb-ft more torque; that you will notice.

The MT can handle a bit more torque, but the current limitation is the clutch. Highly doubt they will redesign it, there isn't a compelling RIO for them at this point. But you never know, maybe they'll surprise us.

To me that’s not correct from BMW to do that without issuing any LCI or pre-LCI Model.
I have ordered my car 09/2023, when the first cars were delivered to customer 3/4 months ago.
I will receive it in 3 months and I already know that the car will depreciate very quickly with the updated figures version.

Even if the difference will not be noticeable, people will of course for the same money buy the new instead of the old, hence the old will decrease.

I have a wrong feeling about that.
Not buying to win money of course, but come on…

If you believe a 20hp bump will cause your M2 to “depreciate very quickly” (not sure I agree with that conclusion) I assume you also think the LCI would cause its value to absolutely crater. So, if depreciation is a concern of yours, why even buy until the final model year?

For almost every car, each new year brings a new bell or whistle. If you must have only the latest and greatest, your only options are to upgrade every year or enter an infinite cycle of delaying your purchase because there will always be something better if only you wait a few more months.

The 2023’s and 2024’s are great. Enjoy them. If you’re really concerned about finances, take the $1,000 you saved with the earlier model’s lower MSRP and invest it. When it’s eventually time to sell your car, that investment will be far greater than whatever additional depreciation you’re expecting.

You have to remember that if those engines from the 60s/70s were tested against today's SAE standards, their output numbers would be much lower. IIRC correctly, most of those HP numbers were gross claims, meaning no parasitic losses were calculated to give you a net number either. SAE continually makes adjustments such that I recall a few years ago (maybe 10 now) that cars from a previous year made more power on paper than the succeeding year only because the standard had changed even those the car hadn't changed.

Not my biggest concern, but buying a Model That is « outdated » when you take delivery is not a Good feeling to have…
For the M3/4 I can understand because they are existing since 2020, but M2s are delivered since only 8 months…

In Europe we are not on the same approach (MSRP), and I also obtained a discount (9%), so that’s not the biggest issue. Even if, yes, in one year for the same used car sales price, people will go for the 480HP instead for the 460HP… hence resales’ price of 460HP will be lower.
Not a lot, but nobody “loves” to loose money because of dumb commercial methods from BMW 😅

Also, the two country importers I heard that where asked about that news today said : bulls*t.
So either they are not well informed, either this is again just a rumor and that’s it.

It does not prevent me to have a lovely feeling about my car in 2/3 months, but I am sad and pissed that BMW and car industry used these iPhone methods.

EDIT : Summarized idea is : that’s not because I accept loosing money by purchasing a New car, that I have to be happy loosing even more due to the increase HP in the next months.

Any idea if the average consumer would even notice the bump in power?

I was thinking it might be like the m3 compared to the detuned g87 m2. Where the increase in HP only comes on in the top end.

The power bump is nice, the new color options even nicer.

If the next info leak says we get oem oil cooler protection and/or stronger windshield glass I might just have to trade up!

Yes the “ glass “ issue is a thing for me as I needed to replace two windshields on one vehicle my wife owned for less than a year. It’s a hassle that I do not want to continually repeat lol.

I wish they brought dravit to the options. Out of those rumored options I think I’d still prefer black sapphire.

What would be a good time to place an order to get a MY25, April-May?

You should consider putting a deposit down. Most dealers already have a list of buyers for MY25.

I000 miles in, it’s hard to imagine more power than it has- I’m not interested in tuning it just yet but Dinan (& others ) has an easy little box that will get us 500 wheel hp for just under $600 so not worried about that.

I can understand the upset with the upgrade, why not just trade in (I know, $$$). You will likely see better financing by than, plus if you’re not sure which transmission you want , you can try the G87 in some form now and than know what you really want this summer for the next order.

Today I was doing some traction control off part throttle acceleration on perfectly smooth dry roads on my G87 (ZF8) and the wheel hop is quite violent and annoying.

Whoever is saying there is no wheel hop on the G87 is making stuff up.

I haven't gotten this much wheel hop since the days of my solid rear axle Mustang GT.

I literally came to BP to search for it - I was shocked by how bad it was.

What are people's experiences with wheel hop with Traction Control Fully Off?

My car started to wheel hop when I was on ps4s and the weather started to drop under 10 degrees Celsius. After I switched to full winters it's not hopping anymore, no mather how long I drift. I think it has to do with the rigidity of the tire in cold weather
