Just to see if I could find anything new out, I called BMW Genius.

The rep mentioned that my car is sitting in a warehouse, not yet at a port and not yet assigned to a vessel. She confirmed that BMWs ship out of both Veracruz and Altamira but the bulk ship out of Veracruz. She did not know which port my car will ship from.

She did say that cars typically sit for 2-4 weeks before vessel assignment and that my car should be assigned very soon, within another two weeks. Once it's assigned, it generally means the vessel is pretty close to the port (i.e. not another several weeks away) and the car gets transported from the warehouse to the port.

Also, regarding being stored in a warehouse, the rep said this is due to the "turbulent weather" that Mexico is experiencing and made it sound like cars don't always get stored in a warehouse. I'm guessing this is a seasonal thing. But, I think I'd rather have my car stored in a warehouse than at the port while waiting to get loaded.

Just another set of info on what's going on down there.

That's good to know, given some of the early brake issues that may have happened from sitting at the port... I agree the warehouse is a better location.

How long did it take you to get a response via email? I emailed them this AM and unsure about the time frame to expect.

Good info. But I thing the Genius may simply be interchangeably using different words (staging area, storage area, warehouse, port, waiting carrier assignment, etc) for the period from when it’s is released from the factory to distribution (165) until it boards a specific ship.

I’m unconvinced there is a warehouse that can house thousands of cars. There could be one, but most likely semantics.

I think I will only know anything more definitive once my car is scanned into a ship.

The rep seemed to think it was "inside", but, yeah, seems a little far-fetched. Given that some BMW Genius reps don't even know that M2s ship from Mexico, I don't have much confidence.

Contacting BMWGenius by email was no better...

If I took them on their word, it has now taken longer for my car to go from the factory to port, than it took for all the week 38 builds to go from factory to dealerships

The initial batch of 2023 M2s that were stored for an overly long time at port in Mexico developed defective rotors and break pads, causing BMW to have to warranty fix them. I saw it on the Vehicle Virals youtube channel. Maybe that's why they're storing them in a separate warehouse first. If that's the case, I would be happy to know.

Based on what we can tell, never. (We have no idea, only speculation)

That is depressing, isn’t it? Here in New England the difference between getting a sports car in late Oct vs late Nov is huge.

For those in FL, makes no dif 😎

Welcome to the club. For some reason this time around there is a complete lack of info on a ship doing the normal East Coast run, which normally goes Veracruz ->Altamira->Brunswick->Baltimore->Philly->Newark. (I prob forgot some ports)

All we have found is some ships that only touch a few of the above with no known firm schedule. We are mostly in the dark until cars start getting scanned into a ship.

My car's production date was 9/22 (on the tail end of week 38), entered "Final Assembly" 9/23, and has been in the "Ready for Transport" stage since 9/29. It is a bit frustrating to know that I probably missed getting my car now or very shortly by one day, seeing as other week 38er's cars have arrived. Every day counts as I live in Iowa (POA is Baltimore) and pretty soon the roads will be covered with salt and grit and slush until next March.

So, on to the shipping conversation. This is this third BMW I've ordered and tracked and I can say that this step has never had this much uncertainty. My '15 M235i sat at Bremerhaven for 10 days, and my i4 M50 for 3 days before departing. MyGarage was mostly accurate so I had a very good idea of where things stood.

I've been following boats that are leaving from Veracruz, arriving in Baltimore. I was super hoping my car was on the Morning Chorus that left Veracruz 10/5 and Altamira 10/14, then Baltimore today, but I've lost hope on that.
Bravery Ace arrives at Veracruz 10/19 and then arriving in Baltimore 10/26, and then back to Veracruz 11/1.
Toronto arrives in Veracruz 10/29 and then has a number of stops before arriving in Baltimore 11/11.

If my car doesn't get on one of those boats, then I have no idea what's going on at Veracruz. Has anyone gotten anywhere with tracking VINs or BOLs with any of these shipping lines?
I know the feeling, being in Iowa as well. Was hoping we'd either get it prior to winter, or after. But is now looking like dead center of winter ofcourse.

Just switched to 165 yesterday. How long have you been there?

BTW, I don't want to admit how often I check mine....
