I remember the 8” floppy from the IBM 3174 controller in my IBM mainframe days. I remember having to eject the floppy, power off, back on and re-insert to recover when they locked up - they contained the microcode, and we used to get new versions with updates on from IBM - those were the days!

...when you finally get outside for a measly 15 mile ride and then pay for it later by having to fight dual hammy cramps in the middle of the night. Yeow.

When I was at an appointment a week ago, the doctor noticed an involuntary movement in my left hand when holding my phone. After a few questions, it was "here, take these pills" to cure it.
Ever since I was sent home from the hospital with a 24/7 IV infusion that was only approved to ease a terminal patient's suffering and didn't know it for two years, I have made it a policy to read the medical equivalent of an MSDS to see what each new prescription does and what the risks are. The sheet and online info for "these pills" says that the first week on this medication is a rough ride, and begs the patient to push through the unpleasant side effects. Anyway, "these pills" must have been the work of Timothy Leary. Every time that I close my eyes (wide awake), I see all kinds of interesting scenes. A dozen extension ladders being raised, wrapping paper pastel balloons popping, a gothic cathedral interior, etc. First time in my life that I feel the need to ask Alice, because the white knight is definitely talking backwards! The prescribed dose is one pill twice a day, and stopped the involuntary movement after one day. It also seems to have helped re-calibrate my internal gyro, which has been out of whack since my last hospital stay and makes me scared to do things like try to ride a bicycle. Unfortunately, it also gives me a SPLITTING, five alarm headache that not even five aspirin (that I shouldn't be taking) will squash. I have cut back to one dose in the morning since the weekend, and the headache seems to be manageable today for the first time with "only" four aspirin. If you'll excuse me, there's a white rabbit on my lawn that needs chasing.....

Usually, I would say the same thing. These new pills seem to be helping my internal gyro get back into alignment, so I'm going to push through the pain and marauding gargoyles with the hopes that I will once again be able to walk in a straight line, ride a bicycle, and maybe even get back into the race car for one last drive before my DW turns it into a living room ornament.....

Is that Kookie (Ed Byrnes) 77 Sunset Strip? I never missed an episode of that show, and started using Brylcreem because the girls "will love to run their fingers through your hair". I must have been doing it wrong though. Sigh.

Not sure if this should go here, but I've been having a seriously dry mouth and throat at night time for the past week or so. So dry that I'm getting sore throats from it. I take a few meds at night before bed (which is why in the "you know you're old" thread) but I've been taking these same meds for years and haven't had this problem. I take a 28 oz bottle of Zero sugar Gatorade with me to bed and pretty much finish it by morning but my mouth and throat stay dry anyway.

Another cause of dry mouth is diabetes. I'm sure there are many other causes...

Not exactly. Add in peeing about every 90 minutes all night long, then you can consider diabetes. A 32oz Gatorade, overnight??? I'd do 2L bottles of Pepsi in a single tip. Exact opposite of what was needed.

I've found that dry mouth is because I'm sleeping with my mouth open because my nose is stuffed up.
When I was in the hospital, they insisted on feeding me oxygen through my nose 24/7. I demanded that they keep a pitcher of ice cubes next to my bed to suck on at night, because ice helped keep my mouth closed and moist when I slept.....

Then again, mouth breathers might have dry mouth, along with those who have sleep apnea?
