I don't want an M4 because I don't want to spend the $270/month on insurance that I was quoted for it, otherwise I would. I would literally buy a used 911 and pay almost half that in insurance before I bought an M4, just out of principle. We pay nearly 6 figures a year in auto insurance alone for our business and I'm not giving these fucks any more that I have to, and if that means no M4, then it means no M4.

If there is a "normal adult" interior color for the MY25 G87, and Individual, I might still be interested.

If there's not, then BMW didn't push me to an M4. They pushed me to Porsche.
I don’t think people are getting abrasive its just that we can only play with the cards we are dealt so if black is the only option well then…that’s it. Complaining here won’t change that. Its like arguing with an umpire in baseball…all the arguing in the world won’t change the call. Either you accept it or you just move on.

Of course it doesn’t change anything. People share frustrations in an attempt to find catharsis; not people teasing others for having a preference. I usually don’t engage with forums on cars because I’ve realized that we all are attracted to a particular model for wildly different reasons. But there’s a weird amount of passive aggressive cattiness from what I presume are grown men.

Here we go again...

If MickeyDs is charging $1 for a large coffee and Starbucks is charging $100 for a large (or should I say Venti) single origin coffee and you went to MickeyDs for the coffee. Lo and behold, they changed the color of their lid to red...do you make the decision to go to Starbucks for the different coffee and higher price solely because of the red lid?

Like everything else in life, the forums have become an echo chamber for fan boys. Any criticism is seen as hate and must be crushed. One of the largest and longest threads on bimmerpost is the one in the F8X section for people banned from the G80/2/3 sections for making fun of that platform. It used to not be this way, but the respect for diversity of opinion on these boards is closely correlated to the grammar. The trend is not your friend.

Nice story! Go buy a used Porsche and best of luck on their forum pal. I am sure BMW's feelings will recover from you being pushed...eventually.

Shitty analogy aside...

No, I make the decision to go to my local coffee shop who will charge more but offer a better product because their coffee doesn't give me acid reflux and it's actually what I want.

I was looking at BMW because I already have one and I could, ostensibly, get what I wanted and save a buck (M2, Cognac, black (boring but whatever)). Now that I can't get what I want and can't save a buck, I may as well buy a Porsche and have cheaper insurance to boot. If Individual actually comes to the G87, I may still be interested. I need at least the interior or exterior to be something I jazzed about. Insurance quotes for me were absolutely asinine for the G82. Flawless driving record.

Savvy?

People are allowed to be disappointed that a car that they were excited for is now removing some of the options that made them excited. I was also potentially considering the Z4 M40i as an alternative, but I can't get the colors I want for the exterior, either. So I'm not even interested anymore.

It's great that you're so super duper pragmatic about colors, but many others have strong preferences. Indeed, it's an esoteric thing to give a fuck about, but we're in a forum to explicitly talk about these things.

If can get a Cayman I want for cheaper, with cheaper insurance, and less depreciation, in a color I like, then that's what I'll do if there is no Individual on the M2. BMW are free to do as they like, but it's not motivating me to buy a different BMW. And that's a bummer, because I was getting excited about the M2.

Hit me with the "cool story bro." I couldn't cringe harder.

Imagine feeling pious in condescension over the fact that someone might talk about their disappointment over the loss of an interior color in a forum about that car.

These god forsaken forums invariably turn not into discussion about cars, but uninspired takes at one another. Does that not exhaust you?

"Bro I'm upset that cognac's going away."

"Yeah man, I'm sorry, I can understand why that might be a bummer."

The God of War pfp on top of it all. I can't.

Wishful thinking that the next bump to this thread will be for the new '25 info, and not some people bitching at each other for differing opinions.

I really just want to see the MY '25 info that I've been waiting for, for months.

It's bonkers to me. I can 100% understand why someone might want a very "sporty" looking car. Red, M-stitching, etc. I just don't.

But the sentiment from some here towards people who want something a little more understated feels close to, "Cry about it and get fucked."

Swear to God reddit is more civil than this. Hell, you can get better discourse in an Instagram comment. Only real reason I came at all was to ask Tag something and he was helpful. The abrasion from others is just bizarre to me.

Believe it or not I'm right there with you. I was unable to resist the urge to ask why it was like a fucking warzone in here with regards to varying preferences.

While there are many elements that contribute, I think the biggest is when all certain individuals do is post complaints, and the same complaint over & over & over (e.g., the G87 has 3 interior color choices around black & the M4 has 7 different interior color options...). These people contribute nothing of value to the forum. Write BMW a strongly-worded letter, fill out a survey, contact your Representative, and move on. Re: interior color choices, it's apparent more customers prefer black over brown, and thus brown was discontinued. It's pretty simple math, and considering a high-performance vehicle is a want, not a necessity, find another that offers what you want.

I think if I was ordering another M2 for the model year 2025, I would go with Skyscraper Grey Metallic. I haven't seen it in person, but it looks great from the pics I've seen online. I feel like it would accentuate the body lines of the M2 very well.

I understand the calculus. I don't understand why seeking commiseration is so frowned upon. Obviously making allusions to what the M4 has is a bit of a stretch; it's an upmarket offering. But in such a niche forum, I should suspect people ought to be a bit more gracious and supportive of reasonable disappointments. I've only recently set my eyes on the G87, only to learn that cognac was going away at about the time an allocation is expected. That's a bummer!

However, FWIW, my local dealership says that cognac has been the most popular interior color in the 2 series for their custom orders. They were just as surprised as I was to learn that it was potentially going away on the G87.

Wish they would have done Dravit instead of Skyscraper. Dravit is such a cool color in person; has a very warm/brown iridescence to it.

Dravit will, IMHO, end up being a generational M color for the G8X; would have been incredible to have as an option. Who knows, maybe it will be under individual!

To echo JABCAT, if you spend enough time on the G87 forum you will notice a trend of folks coming in, B&Ming about this that or the other adding zero value, and then disappearing into the ether forever to "take their money elsewhere". it gets awfully tiresome for the locals to hear the same complaints about basic facets of the car that cannot be changed because someone feels the need to voice the same opinion for the umpteenth time.

Despite being "grey," it literally made me say, "Woah, what the fuck is that color?" When I saw it in person. Especially when the light catches it right.

I understand, but IMO it takes just as much effort to say, "Yeah man, I hear you, it sucks" and just move on/ignore. Some people just need to vent because who else is there to vent to? If homies over at the G87 forum can't commiserate, it can feel a bit lonely/isolating, especially since cars tend to have deep emotional ties for a lot of people. I don't feel like I'm owed any one color, and I can see how that entitlement might warrant a bit of ire, but I digress.

if all complaints were expressed in a sincere, mature and well-thought out manner like you have, perhaps there might be a bit more peace on the forum

I'm trying not to let the privilege of sports car shopping be as tedious as it has been, but the removal of the color upset me more than it should have haha. I just came for this lol

yeah. i'm surprised this cannot be done via a software update to idrive 8. i might just wait for the MY25 for this if i cannot find a deal on a MY24 in a colour i want.
