Seems to me that this would be the more logical method of shipping to the US dealers as well. Grossly inefficient the way they are doing it now and obviously causing long delays. BMW is also increasing their risk of damage to the vehicles due to how many times the car is handled at each transfer point.

Their internal assembly line is obviously working well (building a car in a day or so) but their distribution methods are hard to figure out.......If I was a BMW dealer in the US, I would be raising cain if I heard that other dealers were getting cars ahead of me.

I thought the same thing as well. Which is one of the reasons why i inquired as to why BMW choose that location for the plant in Mexico, if they are mostly moving vehicles by ship.

So first the vehicles have to be loaded onto a car hauler truck, whenever one is available and ready. Then unloaded onto a ship. Then offloaded to the dock. Then the vehicles wait for another car hauler truck. Then they get driven to their destination.

Sometimes companies do things that they later regret. It may be some type of corporate experiment. I know in my own business we have had vendors locate to Mexico only to pull out a few years later. I also have customers that have factories in China just sitting idle waiting for the right economic environment or they use the threat of the factory as a bargaining chip with union negotiations.......

Finally got my build slot secured for 46th week this year and expecting delivery sometime in end of January/start of February.

How long did it took for you guys in EU to get your cars from Mexico to EU?

Mine was built 2nd week in June I think it was, expecting delivery before the end of the month! Been an absolute nightmare shipping to the UK.

Ordered mine in early April, built 18th July, still at the port waiting for a ship accordingly to the UK Dealership. No idea of when it will arrive. Let's hope it's before Xmas.

That doesn't bode well for my car then. Been at 160 for 2 weeks and was supposed to be at dealer w/c 20 November.
Sounds like it could be more likely January before it arrives

Damn, I hope shipping to EU is better/faster than UK.

It still has to come all across Europe to get to me, if they unload them in Netherlands or w/e the destination port is located.

This what I had from the UK Dealership a couple of weeks ago.

Mexico Plant (G20, G42, G87):

Logistical delays from our manufacturing plant in Mexico to shipment have unfortunately continued. We do not have a confirmed timetable when every built vehicle will be shipped and consequently, in the short term, the Estimated Delivery Dates (EDD's) for these vehicles within IVS-R should be used with caution until further notice. Unfortunately, the EDD only updates once the vehicle has been loaded onto a vessel. We understand that this is incredibly frustrating for you and your customers. We will keep you updated as much as possible but through all the actions that have been put in place, we expect the situation to improve in the coming weeks.

Once the vehicle has been loaded on to a vessel, we are able to provide more precise EDD's and these dates can be relied upon. The RPC team will send regular updates - which highlight the vehicles with reliable EDD dates.

Sorry, not a clue, the salesman told me it's expected in Southampton around the 16th Oct but that's all the info I have.

I put my deposit / order in about the same time and my car has still been waiting for transport for a couple of weeks. I thought the West coast cars moved faster. Apparently not.

His moved super fast which might be because of it not ever waiting for a ship - he is in Canada and apparently they ship by rail to Canada.

My build date was August 18 and it just got loaded on a ship on 9/24. It was at 160 and 165 for several weeks.

If anyone else is on the Glovis Cardinal, it is moving by the Keys right now - looks to be on schedule to be at Brunswick by 10/6.

Took delivery today! car is incredible. From deposit (week 35 allocation) to pick-up under 2 months! Now it's at the PPF shop for full PPF & ceramic on the wheels, and then straight to the mechanic to install the Dinan exhaust.

Thanks for posting that. Good to see that BMW UK are finally acknowledging that the shipping situation has been less than optimal to put it mildly.

In my case it turned out the estimated dates I was given at ordering for the likely production week etc were all pretty close to what actually happened. The thing that was way off was the EDD, solely down to the time it took to ship the completed car. The delay and the lack of information was the one thing I griped about to the dealer and on the feedback requests I received. Sounds like I wasn't the only one to let them know what I thought about it. Let's hope the expected improvements materialise.

Congrats. Confirming no mild hybrid and what is the model # of the head unit please?

I have 2 on order, been waiting for 9 months on a MY23 still at port from initial order 1/16/2023. Ordered a MY24 8/24 that is built and ready for transport in 28 days. What to do? And now contemplating an M2 in lieu of the M240…

I can confirm mine has the auto start-stop button and you can turn it off - which I believe no mild hybrid.

Not sure on the model # of the head unit - don't know how to check that, but the product genius/delivery walkthrough staff I dealt with when picking up the car mentioned it would have iDrive 8.5 soon.

After helping a friend I think your car is on the Arc Integrity. Has dropped a few other cars off on the east coast and is now Southampton bound ETA 15th of October. Link below.

On the day there is a camera that you will be able to look, look it up on YouTube, they often focus on the cars as they are taken off and loaded into the multi story car park for the imported cars. Enjoy.
