I just can’t get past that the big screen is confirmed for the G87 from the start.
The attached pic is from the i4 but you get the general idea. =( |

All G87 M2 test mules feature the same add-on parts - all fit by the same department. Nevertheless, also with all camo removed, the G87 M2 will keep a rather 'boxy' look & feel. 'Boxy': more bulldog stance (to get the idea: think of striking exterior lines à la E30 M3, 1M and the 2002 Hommage concept car). A worthy, more muscular looking, successor of the F87 M2. And to put some discussions to bed: no G80/G82 coffin grills on the G87 M2.

A big question is will tuners have the same access to the ECU and DME as they've figured out in the G80/2/3?.....Or will it take some time to unlock?

The video game cluster in the G-series M3/M4 is bad enough, but that Jerry Jones widescreen drive-in movie abomination is an unforgivable sin IMHO.
M2 LCI / M2c is peak BMW cluster. Everything later is a Mongolian clusterfarkle.

+1 I just traded in my 18 M2 for a 22 G80 M3 and while the tach takes some getting used to, the amount of info you can display at one time is way better than what was available on the OG M2... For example, in my M2 I could either have my oil temp or digital speed show in the small, central display; and I opted for the oil temp gage. Now with the G80, I have a dedicated oil temp gage, digital speedo, plus I can add a g meter and tire pressure/temp widget. With that said, my personal favorite interior layout is the E9x M3. I'll always love those gages.

What I mean by that is M specific engines found on no other platform, less "bling" than competitors, but more performance, under-styled looks (at least by comparison) And most of all more soul, (analogue Tach, no pipped in exhaust noise, better connected steering). So if the M2 was basically the last of all that, it really would be here during the last peak BMW happened recently. I think I imagined a lot of their modern line as still being 10 years away, soon you will be able to see "through" the car via dash screen and forward mounted cameras, like brand new jets. And while that is cool and all, I kind of like hydraulic steering so my taste in cars, (like taste in music) is going backwards in time. |

I personally think it's kind of silly to rule out one of the last (if not the last) pure ICE M available because it has a curved screen. I'd tell an E9x M3 owner (I own one too) who would not want to give the F87 a try because you couldn't get iDrive delete that they're really missing out on a great car. I have absolutely 0 reason to believe that the G87 will NOT be a special car. Will it be perfect? No. But neither are my 4 M's spanning 20+ years.

I absolutely love the F87 M2. If the G87 looks like an abomination, that's likely the route I'll go...outdated interior and all...the exterior and driving pleasure make up for it ten fold. |
