"Order Received" means you have an allocation and BMW AG has agreed to build the car.

You are not "scheduled for production" so there is no build week. There may be an approximate build week, but even when you are scheduled for production that can change. Nothing is in stone until they pull a chassis and assign you a VIN.

How do I know?
Because I went through a full year of delays on an i4.

If you specced out your vehicle, they should get in touch before submitting the final build to see if you want to make any changes. Once submitted, your CA will send you a PDF with your build and Prod number, they can also tell you when your build week is.

The time between deposit and allocation will always vary, its all about your timing and how many people are ahead of you. The dealership could have allocations coming in a few days or a few months

No yeah that's what I'm saying. What I'm telling TNSC_M2 is that if your dealer can't provide you with the production number they probably don't have the allocation. Some dealers are just in a rush to lock in your order and deposit without an actual build slot available.

Here’s their response…
Production # doesn't generate until the car is actually in production and starts being built. I get the production # and VIN at the same time. Your clock has already started. That's why we quote build times 4-6 months, which were still in the parameters for. As soon as I see it flipped, I will send you the VIN/production #.

And now I read folks getting their #’s walking out the door on day 1?! Classic lol

On a more somber note, the Malibu fires must have been quite a view from the sea last night.
Yeah, I keep seeing stories on IG of Malibu and it looks rough. I was just there after Motor4Toys on Sunday so it'll look like a different planet next time.

Any idea why Capricornus Leader is seemingly adrift off the coast of San Diego? I've seen lots of carriers come and go at Port Hueneme, as well as some anchored right off the coast there waiting their turn, but ours is just kind'a wandering around off of north county SD despite being late.

Sorry, they are either misinformed or they lied to you. You get the production number right away so that you can track progress up to "production started". I got my prod # on July 20 and then got my VIN on Sep 13 when production actually started. Prod # is basically useless once you're assigned a VIN. VIN allows you to track status on myBMW app, prod # allows you to track on website. Basically, without a prod number, the factory has no knowledge of your order.

I have no idea. It’s just sitting there! There must be a backup of ships waiting to be unloaded.

Production number is associate with the allocation. As soon as the allocation is spec'd, the status changes to 111 "Order Receieved".

Next comes 112 "Scheduled for Production", then 150. When you hit 150 your build locks and you get your VIN.

I don't know why dealers lie like this. This happened to me with my first G87. The dealer lied and said I had an allocation and made me leave a $500 deposit. When I asked them to provide me the Vehicle Inquirt Report with the Production Number, there was no response.

You should have seen the look on their faces when I showed up a week and a half later in the exact same M2 they took my money for and didn't have an allocation.

Even this time around, when I went in on 8/19 to order the car, I didn't leave a deposit because they had no production number. I went back on 8/24 and they had an allocation they got that Thursday. We were able to load my build in and I left with a Vehicle Inquiry Report, my car was status 111 Ordwr Received, and the process was under way.

Sorry they're jerking you around. If they can't provide you with a Vehicle Inquiry Report, I'd start reaching out to other dealerships. Depending what kind of volume this dealer does and what their M sales look like, you could be waiting months for an allocation.

Appreciate the feedback. My dealership is in Nashville and it’s a solid 75+ miles to the next dealer, which is a hole in the wall in Bowling Green, KY.

Hmmm…

I know you'd prefer to work locally I have an M2 allocation available We could get the order done today and we'd work in free shipping to you if that would help us workout a deal. I work at BMW of west st Louis. I also have a m2 on the ground available it's brooklyn gray and manual. Doing 3k off the instock one. I'd have the custom order here within 3 months.

Check this thread for details on the order and tracking process. Ignore the shipping section since our cars come from Mexico.

Yes. As soon as dealer entered the order against their allocation, I got an email from bmwusa with number.

Genius just told me yesterday that my voodoo build was delayed to week 9 2025 from week 7 2025. I'll probably be getting the car in April at this rate after getting an allocation in August
