We know if there are actually tarrifs imposed as he said. He seems hell bent on moving forward with all his threats.

I think it could just be posturing. BMW does make a lot of SUVs in South Carolina. Also, if my build week is really in May, I am guessing I will get my car in July? I think that is a fair amount of time to see how this all plays out. I hope anyway.

I'm another hoping he is just posturing, I'm currently scheduled for build week 7 and delivery in April. Hopefully this is all settled before I take delivery, if not I will not be taking delivery which would make me sad!

There is no indication that tarrifs start February 1st from what I've seen. Can you post a link?

Let’s say the tariffs do go through, if I already signed a contract and paid my deposit, my prices should be locked in correct? Only people ordering and signing contracts after the tariffs would have to pay the extra costs?

BMW would definitely ask for an exemption. A 25% tarrif on Canada and Mexico would decimate the industry he says he's trying to help. Just about every US based car company and quite a few foreign based, manufacture, source parts and assemblies from Canada and Mexico. AutoZone, O'Reilly along with other parts suppliers will need to raise prices.

The import taxes could be a bluff, but the pile of horrific orders he already signed say otherwise. |

If they actually go into effect, I'm just going to get an M4 and call it a day. This isn't political but tarrifs are a crap show and will decimate the auto industry. Parts from the US cross into Canada and Mexico and go into cars that are imported into the US. Parts that go into Canadian cars come from Mexico and travel through the US and the reverse is also true. This is an unmitigated mess if he does it.

If they get imposed then manufacturers should just do what Buick does to avoid tariffs.
Manufactured in China, assembled in Korea, then shipped to the US as a quality American made car. |

Questionable on your suggestion that BMW could sell a US-spec car in another market(s). I certainly do not have any expert knowledge on this point, however, I’m not sure what other markets would accept a US spec car and have it be legal for sale in any countries/territories outside of the US. |

We see this in the US, where, for example, a Spyder RS originally sold in Canada, while legal to import to the US, will sell at a discount compared to a Spyder RS originally sold in the US. |

My son spent many years exporting used pickups from Alberta to Arizona and California dealers. With the metric instrument cluster swapped to a US cluster, a CAD$50k truck would typically generate $5k in profit after transportation costs, selling for USD$50k or so in the destination US market. Basically cross border sales don’t necessarily mean lower prices. |
