Since I possibly pissed off others in another thread, I might as well keep it going. Aside from the shifter feeling and of course how light it was, I never got into the S2000 hype. I just never felt that VTEC yo like others.
I will say the ITS I test drove did feel powerful enough to be fun. If the S2000 had that power level without mods, it would’ve been a riot. |

i dont really fit in them, but the shifter is the star of the show to me. in terms of on road dynamics (and fit) i prefer miatas and (most) Z cars. |

Funny, I was a huge 300ZX fan, unfortunately couldn’t afford the TT at the time.

Lol, beat me to it, was gonna say exactly the same thing. I'd say it is one of the great roadsters of this century. I mean, that's a small pool of competitors, sadly, but it is what it is.

I have not driven G87 manual yet, but I just bought a used 2006 Z4M. After changing the fluid, which was horrible looking and smelling (17 years unchanged?), it shifts great. It's way better than my F87 competition; you can actually shift it fast and it's already less rubbery without aftermarket SSK.

IMO - Engagement point is awkward, 1st to second (mainly) and 2nd to 3rd can be jerky unless shifted very very slowly and early - not sure if this experience is just me. Vast majority of my manual experience has been with Hondas. Maybe I'm spoiled. They were all much better.

There is nothing wrong with the G87 manual transmission. 1st to 2nd, you need to slip it like 1st gear to make it smooth and accelerate fast. I came from these manual (12 Mustang GT, 14 Miata Club, 17 Wrx, 19 C7 Corvette) and I would put the G87 near the top of the list. G87 is so easy to shift, I have not missed as shift or stalled the car since I got it 1.5 years ago.
They are all good shifters. 12Gt and Wrx are my least favorite but they are still good to me. |

I’ve had s2000, 1st gen nsx, nd miata and my last car was a gt350. All had great shifters, but feel they’ve been overhyped. Although snickety-great, I felt Honda’s gears to feel fragile and brittle.
I really don’t mind the M2’s shifter. Granted this is my first BMW and have no idea whether they changed anything shifter wise for the lci ‘25. Then again, I really liked my mk6 gti shifter, so maybe I’m just a “boxed wine” kinda guy |

Nothing from Germany short of Porsche will even remotely touch the CTR in regards to the 6MT. BMW is trying to phase out the manual, so there is zero incentive for them to improve it / waste any R&D money on it.

There is nothing wrong with the manual in this car. It feels the same as any manual transmission of any BMW made. I have owned 2 46M3s, 2 E92 M3s all of these I have owned when they were new. I found the manual in the G87 actually better than the previous BMWs I owned. Once you get used it, I find them completely intuitive. I have also owned a Porsche 911S and even the Mustang had a better shifter in it. However, it gets the job done and I would still rather have the manual than the auto.
