Doug I can stand a lot more than Shmee to be fair and he gets on some very interesting cars.
Shmee goes for this aspirational crap always about owning the latest and best which probably pulls in a lot of younger people. |

Agreed. I cannot stand watching Schmee. It's like someone running their finger nails across a dry, chalky, chalkboard.

I used to enjoy his videos because of all the features he shows. But I saw 2 videos when he whined about GM not giving him C8 for review and how he has some million followers. He made a video to whine about his insecurities.

Doug is great outside his videos; he's a good dude who knows a lot about weird cars, but he should pump the brakes on his shtick. I enjoyed his last podcast with the smoking tire. The "thissss aaaannnddd thisss" gets him the views.

I've driven an E39 but haven't had the opportunity to drive an E39 M5. What I can say is the chassis feels awesome and immediately made me want to test out the M5. I can see why they get so much love and I've never driven the car, but I really need to.

Pity that BMW replaced Cirrusblau of the e30 / e34 era with Bluewater for the e39. I agree that it doesn't suit the sharp business suit look the M5 needs. Nonetheless - a great M5 from the golden era.
Gratuitous shot of my cirrusblau e30 Would have also been a great e39 colour - the darker silver blue would work. |

In general, the algorithm youtube uses is rigged and makes no common sense. P.S.: One thing I will forever be mad at him is for saying in every single Bangle-era BMW video that the self-centering column stalks are crap. They were a brilliant idea!

Love that M5 btw, I too have a special place for early 2000s models thanks to Need for Speed and that being the time I was coming into driving age. They do look a little "old" now, but not in a negative way to me. |

Great car! Love the E39 M5 - always have.
But that dude Doug is so annoying the way he speaks. It's like he's always in a hurry or has to use the bathroom really quick-like. Anyway, the review was meh....most of us already know many if not all of those 'quirks' - but that's why many of us enjoy BMW's. It's like the car and the company back then had the engineering group and designers synced as one. True German road car, M-superlative'ness, and as Steve Jobs would say ' it just works like Magic' (the M cars as a whole) Cheers, Merlin

But, much like his voice and choice of words, that's the style that helps him stand out and get him clicks/views. I'll give Doug credit where it's due since he does at least try to be informative and I will agree that the likes of Shmee are definitely unbearable to watch by comparison. I didn't even know BMWs had turn signals until he had brought up the column stalks.

In 2004 I had the opportunity to buy a nearly new, very low mileage 2003 LeMans Blue w/Blue/Black leather M5 for a very good deal. The ideal car in the ideal color. Unfortunately it wasn't a good enough deal with 2 young kids in private school. I'd already owned 2 E39 5ers so I wasn't suffering. Bought a Mystic Blue E46 330i ZHP instead and followed that a few years later with an E90 M3 6MT. Back in a 5er now but they are so much bigger than the E39's. Even the F30 3 series is the same size as an E39.

I have a 2003 e39 M5 with 68k miles. It's an EAG example with the Dinan S1 package, sports seats, and Euro dashboard. I've had it for 2 years and will never sell this car. The car has full Xpel protection so there's no scratches or dents on the original paint. I've upgraded the stereo system so I have everything I need. BMW can never make a better 5 series than this. It's hard to describe the feel of the car unless you drive it. It's a special model and like most have said the pinnacle of BMW design. I honestly wouldn't take a new one over this.
