Despite less power it's fastest lap was 2:24.7, the F80 2:27.1 & F82 2:26.7.

Here are weight specs from BMW Germany pdf docs at time of release so exclude market dependent options, weight in kg unladen (ready to drive with 90% fuel) & DIN (add 75kg to driver/luggage), all for 6MT:

M2 1495/1570
M2C 1550/1625
M2CS 1550/1625
G87 1700/1775

G87 accompanying doc says carbon roof option saves 6kg & M Carbon buckets 10.8kg
Your data is accurate, but the real world figures are about 60/70 kg more for all M2s (depending on specs), as well as for the F80 which on paper would be 200 kg lighter than the G80, but in real life the difference is about 70/80 kg because the declared weight of the F80 was underestimated.
If the claimed weight of the G87 is as accurate as the G80, the real weight difference between the old and new M2 will be around 70/80 kg, nothing to be proud of but acceptable in my opinion.
I would have preferred a lighter car, but I can live with the increase in size and weight, although the new interior with ID8 is still a dealbreaker for me

If you've ever driven sub 1300kg sports cars, you will feel how much of a porker anything post-E36 really is.

I’m in LA with my fam and we’re running around in Son1 s 1.8 JB4 sportwagen. With all 5 of us in there it’s such a pig. Weight is super important at 200 Hp but prob less important with 500

When you have to turn and brake you worry about weight with both 200 and 500 hp.

If you’ve ever driven an e36 you will feel
how pathetically slow they are 😂😉

The weight thing cannot be avoided in modern cars. The cars keep getting faster, in a straight line, around the track, it cannot be avoided.

Not the Euro ones I've had. They are essentially E46 M3s with 150kg less weight. I agree US M3s weren't M3s.

Carbon roof and carbon fiber seats. Also note the weight distribution F/R, better than the other G platform M cars.

It can therefore be said that with the same specifications the weight increase over the previous M2 Competition is about 100 kg, which can easily be reduced by about 20 kg with the carbon package and wheels of the M4.

Which is the reason we get them, if you think about it.

I wouldn’t be caught dead in a shitbox E30 or E36… let alone put my son in it.

I’d rather have a safe car to drive in. This is WHY I bought the M2.

A Porsche GT3 RS, the most dedicated sports car from a sports car brand, which only sits 2 people, has no space to put anything, has a roll bar and wings, weighs 1,500 Kg. Only 2 “passengers” less than the M2, a practical sedan. I think the weight is not off. Maybe Porsche “fanbois” are there arguing over the fact the air cooled shitbox was 700Kg lighter than the 992…
+1

No where did weight reduction factor-in as a design goal for the M2. Why is weight an issue here today still. It wasnt from the day the car was designed. Dont like it - get something lighter. You have options. Weight was never going down and was never promised to do so lol!!

2010 GT3-RS Curb weight US Model was 1370kg
2023 GT3-RS Curb weight US Model is 1482kg

OMG 112 kgm's more for the GT3-RS. Call the Pope! World is ending.
All are getting heavier.

Look at the bloody Emira. What Lotus......its a boat compared to what a "Lotus" should be/has been lol. It gained 190kgm over the last Evora on the US model as an example.

If you want to enjoy some light-weight track time fun, get yourself one of these.

1/4 the weight, 1/4 the power....but 100% of the fun!!!

..... and pennies to run.

That car weighs 1655 Kg. I don’t remember if people called it heavy in 2008 because that’s before the “influencer” era.

But here we are. A decade and a half later saying a more modern, bigger, safer, faster, more luxurious (add more if you will) car is heavy because it weighs 25 Kg more than that older, smaller, car.

I’ll correct myself. I said “cars weigh more”, but apparently that, too, is incorrect. If a bigger car weighs 25 Kg more than a smaller one, I’m not sure cars actually got heavier then…
I can live with the extra weight if the car is well designed, the question is whether we really need bigger and bigger (and consequently heavier) cars. The new 5 Series is over 5m long and 3m wheelbase, while a few years ago it was as long as the current 3 Series.
I would take the M2 over the M4 just because I don't want a car with a 2.85m wheelbase, that's the size of a big saloon a few years ago, it's crazy.

Blew the engine on mine at just under 1/2 the M2 power, now going for 250bhp (naturally aspirated 2.0) with the new build, 0-60mph in first gear in 3.0 seconds, here we come!
