This chick who works with me, daddy bought her an M240. Once we were talking cars and I mentioned how the M2 is my dream BMW, and she goes oh I have an M2.

I know another guy with a C43 "AMG" coupe, and everybody thinks it's a real proper AMG, despite having ordinary wheels, skinny rear tires, and no quad exhaust pipes.

Clearly, this stuff really grinds my gears.

Welcome to the world of "flex culture", where taste means nothing and appearance is everything.

Don't sell yourself short, you forgot the M badges, Powerdome, M side mirrors, M calipers, M steering wheel and M seat belts in addition to the quad exhaust.
They say the power dome is there because the motor sits high.

I don't know why everyone is complaining though. You know you have the real deal and what Mlite owners say shouldn't affect your mood or how you feel.

As far as the M distinct features , regardless of how y'all feel or not. Mlite owners will end up just buying M style mirror, quad exhaust etc., now it's supplied from the factor.

I do resonate with how you all feel and this is my opinion as a Mlite owner. I have extensively driven an M2 Comp, M4 Comp, & M3 Comp. They're better more raw out the box cars. PERIOD.

What I'll close with is I agree they're are way too many M badges all over the M performance cars I do think it's weird especially that silly "M" that sits on the front panel on the Driver & Passenger side. I know why BMW is doing this because they're taking little bits and adding them to the M performance cars such as: factory LSD, more power, stiffer chassis etc.

More or less it seems like BMW is trying to add a 3rd tier of vehicle modes. Think 330i, M340i & the mighty M3. If they're trying to do this, make a clearer distinction.

Who's "they"? The engine does not sit high, you can Google for images of the M240i and see yourself that it sits pretty low and would easily clear a hood that didn't have a power dome.

The reason they gave the car the power dome is due to its long hood. They wanted to break it up, or trick your eyes into thinking it's not as long by adding the power dome. Check out some pictures of the cars profile and you'll see why they added it.

I will measure clearance in a few days when I pick up this vehicle and we can revisit this topic and put it to rest.

Hey thanks ! I just picked up the car today. So I will admit that this wasn't the perfect test and I will figure out how to conduct a better test. I'll text my friend who is a machinist as he probably has more precise instruments.

I put my my patrol cap on the engine bay which is 4 inches in height. I closed the hood and it smashed it down to 2 inches in height. Again I know this wasn't the best test I just wanted to use something that was "tall enough" and soft so it didn't mess up the bonnet lining and the engine bay cover.

Thanks for taking the time to test this. IMO that confirms the power dome is not needed to clear the engine. 2 inches is a lot of clearance.

That said, how do you like the car? I know you still haven't had a chance to fully break it in, but what do you like or even dislike about it so far? How spacious is the cabin to you? I don't know if you had an F22 or F87 before, but if you did we'd value your insight between the two.

To be honest I'm over it. I mean they ruined their reputation with all their massive gaudy grilles and hideous designs as of late. What a fool I was to think they gave two f'n sh!ts about M car design. I can't wait until they start putting the S58 into the 2 Series Active Tourer!

P.S. The irony of giving a 3 Series a CF roof, but not having that option for the F87. Bastards.

Ok so I've had an F87 Comp for a few days here in Germany and I can immediately tell you I like that car more.

Dislikes about the 240i : brake pedal is entirely too mushy but I already had SS Brake lines waiting to try and fix that issue.

the car does feel extremely heavy when turning and it falls flat on its face at about 130mph because of its weight. The G8X chassis manage the weight better imo I've also driven the G80 Comp & G82 Comp.

I dislike the intelligent safety system. Having a car counter steer for you is very unsettling for me. This is probably just a G chassis problem in general

I can give you a ton more feedback June 2nd. I will be doing 3 Touristenfahrten days at the end of this month.

The F87 Comp is more raw, energetic, begs to be driven and needs to be tamed which for me is apart of the entire driving experience.

I got this 240 because it aligned more with my budget this was my second choice over the F87 comp but I would've had to give the dealership and extra 10k to get the monthly payment I was comfortable with.

Overall , I feel like if somehow the G42 can go on a diet and loose 3-400lbs it would be a more enjoyable car. My car shipping weight was 3827lbs with 1/4 tank of fuel.

Cabin space: I'm 6' 215 athletic build 32inch waist. I haven't adjusted the seat and it hugs me just about right. The only thing I had to do at the dealership was lower the seat more because I was sitting entirely too high but that was just my personal preference. Hopefully I have enough room to put my helmet on.

Likes: LSD , 893m wheels 8.5j F & 9.5J rear with a 245/255 stock tire set up.

I'm very biased because I drive my vehicles on the Nordschleife so there's things I tend to nit pick on and I end up just changing these things to suit my needs anyway.

Excellent feedback, thanks. I’m looking forward to hearing more about your experience in June. I believe the M2 will address most of your complaints with the M240i, but as far as the weight I don’t think that’ll change. These cars are heavy af.

I 100% agree with you. My APR is so low I will be in positive equity in 3/4 months so I'm keeping my options open to trade. I'm waiting on Team Schirmer to reveal that Blue G8X they are working on so I can see what they are doing with the rear brakes and weight management. I will most likely pop by their shop when I'm there.

To this day, I still think BMW should have invested in the "iS" sub-brand. 340iS, X4iS, X5iS, would have been freaking awesome. None of this lower case "m" crap. This whole 'follow the leader' nonsense has to stop, I get that Audi and Mercedes-AMG are doing it, but BMW as a brand should do better. Oh well, at least they still offer a manual in their performance cars.
