The gold outline is what comes on the regular M240i LED headlights. When you get the shadowline LED headlights the inner housing is black. The shadowline LED headlights look way better IMO.I don’t see any difference between these headlights compared to the ones on the M240i but if they have different part numbers than there must be something that is different.

The second pic is the shadowline headlight.

No laser for G87 and actually BMW is dropping laser lights for new models completely (not available anymore for example on LCI 3 series) and moving to matrix LED.

OLED is usually only used for rear light graphics, not headlights…and I doubt the G87 will get OLED, maybe a CSL G87, but even for the M4 CSL BMW moved to laser & LED for back..
Do you know why? Very strange that BMW invests in laser light technology and then just removes it from LCI models. I noticed that you can no longer order laser lights in an X5. You need to go X5 M for lasers..
I read about in an article somewhere when the LCI came out. Seems one of the major reasons are the various county regulations for laser lights that make it difficult and expensive to adapt for, so they want to streamline the technology for the whole market and therefore move to Matrix LED.

All current generations that have lasers will not have them anymore on a refresh and mLED will then be the top option.

Audi actually is doing the same and moving away from the laser technology.
BMW was very early with laser, they have been introduced with the i8 launch.

After looking at them again there does look to be an extra bit of gold trim at the bottom of the LED bulb on these G87 headlights.

would the inlet not affect the electronics of the headlight. I'd be scared with moisture getting inside the housing

The following came to mind upon seeing these headlights and reading some of the comments thus far:

Like movie production, sequels rarely ever outshine the original blockbuster. However, certain movie franchises (or car manufacturers) manage to keep pumping them out, with the masses finding it very difficult to resist the urge not to go watch, despite pretty much already knowing what's going to transpire.

Headlight revealed? Lol.

Take the film off already so people can say how much BMW screwed up the 2. 🤣

I'm sorry but I really believe that this is a G42 headlight.
The innermost upper corner at the narrow part of the lens just doesn't match the shape of the camouflaged G87 lens.

The headlight in the post doesn't match up with the camo cars headlight in the post. Totally different.

The G42 and G87 will share headlights. This was established months ago when members saw the car in person. Did you not see page 2 of this thread ?

Or it could just be a fake inlet.

They use fake vents and inlets on a wide variety of their cars, from M cars to EVs. The F80/2 for instance had fake fender vents. This is the same manufacturer after all that's been pumping fake engine noise into the cabin for 10+yrs. Just saying...

I think it'll be very similar but not exactly the same. How do you explain the difference in the rounded edge that we've been seeing on the M2 for months vs squared edge on the base 2? Either way, for all intents and purposes it'll be 95% the same but with the extra vent or decorative piece or whatever you wanna call it.

I'd be surprised if they manufactured an entirely new headlight assembly just for the G87 which is a low production entry level M car. Makes more economical sense to add an inlet attachment (fake or real) to the headlight assembly to give it the squared edge.

Which rounded edge?

Look at what this post is pointing to and go back to the original post of this thread and compare the 2 lights. Inner pointed portion of the lights are shaped differently.

You must be thinking about Audi or Merecdes. BMW is a pure driver's car company

I see what you're saying now. While I agree the shape doesn't match, it'd be odd to have one small portion be different. I guess only time will tell.

Agreed, if they had to change it even a little, why not just change the whole thing to be more unique..

All they have to do to get a rounded edge on the corner is make a new lens cover, not an entire new headlight.
