Interesting that the C-pillar is camouflaged: is BMW M toying with the Hofmeister kink or considering the idea to affix a BMW logo (as on the BMW 3.0 CSL and 3.0 CS and CSL Hommage) ?

Recently the X2 also got this feature as a change for the sake of change ("For true distinction, the BMW emblem has been repositioned next to the Hofmeister kink on the C pillar. Just another case of breaking the rules.").

Just remember that it is scheduled to go into production in December 2022. Still a long road ahead to a final version.

This would be a nice touch. I love that Nissan brought it back on the Z Proto

So, the point is....why should I buy a M4 Comp. with 510hp when I can get a 450 hp M2?

It could sincerely be an M4 killer, even more if, as I think, the Comp. will be +10 or +20 hp.

Hope this new M2 has M xDrive as an option!
Highly doubt it will have xdrive

Seems like they want to keep this model more "pure" then again it's competition has AWD

Looks like normal front grill

This thing will probably steal a lot of M3/M4 sales and people will have lots of money left over to mod it.
I think this time it will have more options at least so people can spend more.

Are the fender flares wider, or is the camo-wrap pulled over the new ugly wheel arch plastic lips?

My concerns:

It will be made in Mexico.
It will be heavier.
No DCT option.

Yes - The S58 will have more power, but power isn't everything.

Some fragile egos find the 2-series too small for a manly man or think that 2-series are for poor people...

Ironically I was corresponding with my dealership as this thread appeared. I had spec'd out an M2 but now don't know whether or not to wait it out?

I did the "weak driver" thing for awhile and while it worked out pretty well, I get to work much quicker being "less of a man".

Pure speculation, but the M3 spy shots clearly showed the big grill, which is not the case with this 2. The presto chango is definitely possible though, but I actually like the new grill...and more importantly so does my wife.

I had 5 Audi S4's and RS4's in my 20's and early 30's until they killed the manual transmission. I made the switch to the F80 in 2016 and at the age of 35 it was my first "non quattro" car.

I happen to truly love RWD now. I am on my 2nd F80 (i have an M3 CS) and am getting the G80 in RWD 6MT. I think AWD is totally overrated. I run Michelin Alpins from November to early April and I'm an avid skier. I have no issues getting to the top of a mountain in Maine under any conditions. That's just my experience.

RWD with snow tires outperforms AWD with all seasons and is comparable in functionality to an AWD with snow tires.

So you want to wait 2 more years for a car you don't know you are going to like it or not? Go for the M2C it's a perfect car!

The front end of the 2's are already horrendous.

Body looks great though. Damn shame.

My next car (I'll be keeping my M2) has to be both automatic & have AWD. I need some 500-600whp AWD launches in my life

Pretty much the same story as yours with regards to the many Audi's I've had and we are around the same age. I did 2 F80's and an M2c and while I never got stuck, it was quite challenging going up some of the steep streets here in Montreal (and with some pretty good Nokian Hakkapaleta's).

A lot depends on where people live.

Hoping for good things with this and a less controversial front end. Could still be the sweet spot in the M range if done well.
Thanks for the share.

Same. I have a M235i and the value/performance ratio is great I think but it's def not something I LOVE walking out to it every time. The rear end has always felt too pudgy and tall; a little out of whack with the rest of the design.
