I found it distracting even at the track. If it’s like the g82 display, then the graphics are too big and it kept getting in the way of track out points and etc. I ended up turning it off (car was in auto anyway). I can see it being useful for giving directional arrows with navigation; however, for me, not worth $1100, especially with ID8 already pretty imposing

That alone is a good reason to opt for the head-up display for that performance driving. When one is speed-shifting and hanging ten around the apex, it is nice to have a digital reminder of what gear you're in without having to do that brief mental remapping and possible avoid money-shifting. |

We teach vision skills in primary performance driving schools for a reason, and any competent performance driving program will have vision exercises in place before they ever send you out on track. Car goes where your eyes go. You should be looking ahead at braking points, turn-in points, and apexes (and as you advance, mirrors, so you can manage traffic), not instrumentation (same is true of primary flight training, actually). Speeds change as tires/brakes warm and cool so everything is done by feel (I don't even know what speeds I reach through various segments until I review the post-session recordings). The HUD pulls your eyes to a place where you don't want them to go (bottom edge of your outside forward FOV) and provides zero useful information. Speedometer (as mentioned) doesn't matter on track. Tach barely matters, but only if you're driving an MT and even then analog instrumentation (or shift lights) is preferred because you can easily read it in your peripheral. Porsche (with the giant centered analog tach) has the ideal setup for a mixed-used road/track car. That said, I wouldn't buy an M2 for track use in the first place.

Drove a manual G80 with the HUD and removed it from my order.
Just unnecessary and the normal view is massive and can’t be reduced. |

The longer I've had HUDs, the more I find myself turning them off. I barely use it on my M240i right now. Waiting for an M2 allocation and I think I might skip that all together just to go against the ADM being forced on consumers. Same shit with the useless wireless charger.
