One thing for sure is that all the initial impressions I read across the net show the TH4GC for the silliness it was.

finally someone who has credibility to evaluate how this feels!

Does it feel big and heavy to you? As a former 1M owner, I feel you’d be able to assess this fairly.

Holy cow. I’m #14 on my dealer’s list and I figured the wait might be so long that I went ahead and got on their list for the Competiton model as well. At least I’m #2 in line for the Comp.

Good morning!
In no particular order:
1) 278 total miles yesterday. Heading to Western NC at the end of the month for an annual trip with car friends (BMW 2002's Porsche Boxster and 3.0 911's). I have permission to take a new car or I would be taking my 75 2002 (frame off, corners flat, dual webers, upgraded brakes, etc). Thus putting on miles to get the first service done before the trip. Service Manager said I can do the first service anytime after 800 miles, so that will help with the timing of the trip. Hoping for another 200+ miles today and we might get some rain (Central Florida).
2) Have been going to Western NC since the early 80's, first with sport bikes (First one: Yamaha RD 400 (2-stroke) and last one: Ducati 900FE) and now with old German cars. Been going to Deals Gap long before it became known as The Dragon (and will not go there on Fri-Sun as it becomes a parade). So many good twisties in that part of the country.
3) Went to see my SA about purchasing a M240i and then trading for an M2. He had just gotten out of his sales meeting and said they now have an M2 available and can I drive a MT. I said yes, and he said you have 5 minutes to decide. I said yes, he copied my DL and I put down a $1k deposit (2/18). Right place, right time, and prepared for the event.
4) Mileage so far: since factory 17.5mpg, since last refuel 22.3mpg (80.8 miles local highway stuff and toll roads whenever possible to have less traffic).
5) 2 dedicated ports for devices, cup holders are typical ... small.
6) So far I am positively thrilled and still can't believe I have it.
7) Very stable and smooth (just running all the comfort settings). Will push more as I get more comfortable with it.
8) The acceleration is eye opening (reminds me of a sport-bike, fast as stink!).
9) Seats are good. Sound system is good. Interior lighting at night is groovy.
10) Clutch is a long push or maybe my 2002 is a short push. Adj. seat and all is well. Automatic rev. matching is faster than I can heel-to-toe.
11) Heads up display is Wondervoll! Less eye travel to see the vitals (tach, speed, and posted speed (I hope this is up to date LOL).
12) ZB looks different in person (in a good way). Doesn't look washed out or powder blue. Can look very deep in direct sunlight. People take notice both while driving and while parked. I think it will be like 2002 colors from the 1970's and that's a good thing. If you don't know what I mean just put BMW 2002 color chart in your google machine. Mine is Fjord Blau.
13) My Navigator is not thrilled with the owners manual

Did get a headlight flash and a long side follow along from a M3 Competition.

To be continued...

The car looks great in person and ZB is still my favorite color for MY '23. The 50th badges work really well with it. My car has non shadowline LED's but it still looks great. The carbon roof and black antenna don't clash as much as you think. The rear lip spoiler is still awful in my opinion and needs to be removed (huge PITA though). Blue calipers against ZB looks great to me. The stock black wheels look good, and although pretty heavy, will be great winters.

The exhaust sound is GREAT. I did not expect it until the reviews came out, but it's just as good in person. My wife heard me pull up at home and was like, "wow". Not because of how loud it was, but because it was just the right frequencies, and volume.

- Interior
My car has the M Highlight seats and they look spectacular from the outside in against ZB. I'm not a huge fan of the piano black trim I have, but I don't really care much to replace it, it works just fine. The steering wheel is very thick which we all know - it actually cuts out the upper corners of the gauge cluster due to this. The aluminum is nicely matched to the other interior trim on the steering wheel. I may upgrade to M Performance wheel.

The whole car feels very upscale for an entry model, including ID8. Some switch gear is cheap plastic (door cards), but the standout is definitely the curve display. Resolution is sharp, it never lags, wireless CarPlay is great, etc. Nothing but rave reviews from me. The sound system is solid as well.

One thing about the interior that caught me off guard is the consistent feel of heat, even with AC at 68. Idk because it may have been colder out but I kept feeling like I was getting hit with hot air despite the AC. I also noticed a pretty quiet ride unless the roads were bad. It's a comfortable place to be.

The ambient lighting is awesome and the door entry sounds and M welcome screen are cool touches. The door card M lights look really good as do the M2 badges in the seats. Speaking of, the standard seats are phenomenal IMO. The car is very versatile space-wise. I folded down the seats and hauled a lot of gear. Also leg room is surprisingly better than I thought, but I also drive with the seat more upright than most. Only head room is lacking if you're around 6ft and over of course.

- Performance
The chassis is extremely taught which we all know. But it is way more comfortable than I anticipated. It rides very well in Comfort and is the best damped car I've driven. I have yet to try other modes because of the weather today. I experienced no body roll whatsoever in modest driving.

Turn-in even in all comfort settings make me feel like I don't want to ever drive another car. It is immediate and I can feel what's going on with the tires just fine. I don't understand the complaints here. The front end is crazy good.

The shifter and clutch are easy enough that you could teach someone to drive a stick with them. I really like the shifter because you can feel the driveline even at idle - it is very tactile, but not as rubbery as others have mentioned (maybe bc it's new). Clutch take-up is mid, mid-high and very easy to modulate, with enough torque to pull away with no gas in almost any fashion. My only gripe is that first gear is over with before you know it, but aren't they all?

The engine is, well, amazing. It pulls from any RPM including 2k in high gears and sounds fantastic doing it. I don't know what others expectations are, but if I can be in 4th at 35 and push the gas and then look down and be at 53 past everyone I wanted to pass, I think there's nothing to worry about with torque. If you need more engine, buy more engine and don't complain about this car.

The brakes are phenomenal. Push them and you stop. Feel is pretty good but I honestly never leaned on them hard to tell feel differences between sport and comfort. No opinion here yet.

All in all, I'm thrilled with the car. It is every bit sporty cruiser when you're relaxed, and absolute beast when you want it to be. My only concern is how easily I found myself speeding and I normally drive pretty slow. This car will eat miles like nothing I've ever owned.

9.5/10 (the plastic switchgear, seat backs, and trim pieces do not feel premium)

Edit: zero wind noise (that's huge for me)
Thanks for the detailed review and first impressions. Sounds like my M2 could be a twin of yours. Mine will be here Tuesday and I'm picking it up Wednesday.

Gonna dump my top of mind thoughts here:

Boy do I wish I had the carbon buckets - first highway off-ramp at speed I was sliding around the Merino Leather I will say they are VERY comfortable though - great for a long drive! I am also able to get them seated low enough for my comfort level, which is a huge plus. I do wish they were ventilated; seems an odd omission

I was not a huge fan of iDrive 8 at first - I really don't like the huge tablet in a car thing, and it does look quite tacked on in the interior and not well integrated. Using it however completely changes my opinion - the screen quality is amazing - and having two high resolution Google Maps read outs when using Android Auto is a game changer.

I am generally not a fan of BMW shifters; this one however is much improved on what they've used in the past. It's still no Miata, but far less vague then it has been.

The clutch.... Not so great. Typical BMW vague bite point at the high end of travel. It is also stiffer than I was expecting for a factory car. I am hoping a CDV delete brings some life back into the pedal feel.

Gear shift assist works very well - will take some time to wrap my head around it. I think for more laid back comfort driving I will appreciate it, and I've found I get along best with it the less I think about it. It's going to take some brain re-programming to not heel toe! Like many others, my "fun" M2 setting has it switched off.

I despise the steering wheel - I have never been a fan of BMW thicc wheels, and this one feels like the girth has been stepped up a notch. The section behind the steering wheel buttons also extend out further than I might expect, making gripping the wheel more unnatural.

The brake pedal is quite firm, and the pads feel quite grabby. The pedal feel is arguably... Synthetic. Could just be the subconscious knowledge its BBW, but I do feel like they are intentionally programming in a stiff grabby pedal, even in comfort mode.

The rear seats are usable, however I'd say about 5'5 is the cutoff to fit without slouching to avoid one's head hitting the roof; shame given the versatility of the F87

Loads of room in the trunk, more than enough for a fully grown adult

IMHO you can tell sitting in the car it shares a platform with larger siblings, though it does shrink around you when you throw it into a corner

Suspension is a bit on the bouncy side even in comfort - not unmanageable however. I imagine there is only so much you can do to suitably dampen 3800lbs

First a bit of a resume. i’ve owned every M3 since E30 M3(except Bucky Th Beaver, just can’t do it yet), several M4’s, M5’s, even a 1M. I currently have a M2 CS(manual), a E36 M3 track car and a couple E46 and E30 cars. Most are manuals. i’ve raced Spec E30 and then Spec E46 with NASA and driven countless BMW race cars and street cars.

Okay, so picked it up today in the rain, 41 degrees and still in break in mode. Just took it for a nice spirited(but below break in levels) drive down my person “race track” and I am impressed! Very well balanced and super comfortable. I can tell the “edge” is right there and waiting to be pushed(remember, rain and 41 outside today). I can’t wait to have a nice, non-break in day where I can compare it head to head with my F87 M2 CS and maybe even my Spec E46(I live in the country). Since O got this with the intention of making it a bit of a daily driver, I can tell I’ll be super happy! i’d say if you can get one, do it!

BTW, I don’t even notice the square intakes in the front when I walk up to it. I think that most photos of the car do no favor when taking low angle press photos of the car.

So far I love it. the blue is very unique and growing on me. The interior feels higher quality then the F87. And the power, even at this early stage is great!

.
Quite a collection of cars you got! Thanks for sharing, and looking forward to more feedback as you drive the car.

Totally agree on seats! Decide if it’s a daily driver(like mine) or your spirited sometime driver and buy the right seats!

Agree on iDrive. Takes some getting use to and digging around but it’s all there.

Disagree on steering wheel. Love the chucky feel!

The standard M Sport Seat has Vernasca leather whereas the carbon buckets have Merino leather.

Yesterday at a stop light a city worker cutting grass on a commercial mower decided to take a break while I was stuck in traffic to stare at my car. The mouthbreather parked his mower directly parallel, upwind of me and dumped about 5lbs of grass and garbage all over my car while staring at it.

Last night was my third wash/detail in four days of ownership. A well kitted and detailed ZB has proven to literally be a jaw-dropper.
