One thing for sure is that all the initial impressions I read across the net show the TH4GC for the silliness it was.

finally someone who has credibility to evaluate how this feels!
Does it feel big and heavy to you? As a former 1M owner, I feel you’d be able to assess this fairly.

Thanks. I will give a full report once weather improves and I can really drive it and compare.

Holy cow. I’m #14 on my dealer’s list and I figured the wait might be so long that I went ahead and got on their list for the Competiton model as well. At least I’m #2 in line for the Comp.

Good morning!
In no particular order: 1) 278 total miles yesterday. Heading to Western NC at the end of the month for an annual trip with car friends (BMW 2002's Porsche Boxster and 3.0 911's). I have permission to take a new car or I would be taking my 75 2002 (frame off, corners flat, dual webers, upgraded brakes, etc). Thus putting on miles to get the first service done before the trip. Service Manager said I can do the first service anytime after 800 miles, so that will help with the timing of the trip. Hoping for another 200+ miles today and we might get some rain (Central Florida). 2) Have been going to Western NC since the early 80's, first with sport bikes (First one: Yamaha RD 400 (2-stroke) and last one: Ducati 900FE) and now with old German cars. Been going to Deals Gap long before it became known as The Dragon (and will not go there on Fri-Sun as it becomes a parade). So many good twisties in that part of the country. 3) Went to see my SA about purchasing a M240i and then trading for an M2. He had just gotten out of his sales meeting and said they now have an M2 available and can I drive a MT. I said yes, and he said you have 5 minutes to decide. I said yes, he copied my DL and I put down a $1k deposit (2/18). Right place, right time, and prepared for the event. 4) Mileage so far: since factory 17.5mpg, since last refuel 22.3mpg (80.8 miles local highway stuff and toll roads whenever possible to have less traffic). 5) 2 dedicated ports for devices, cup holders are typical ... small. 6) So far I am positively thrilled and still can't believe I have it. 7) Very stable and smooth (just running all the comfort settings). Will push more as I get more comfortable with it. 8) The acceleration is eye opening (reminds me of a sport-bike, fast as stink!). 9) Seats are good. Sound system is good. Interior lighting at night is groovy. 10) Clutch is a long push or maybe my 2002 is a short push. Adj. seat and all is well. Automatic rev. matching is faster than I can heel-to-toe. 11) Heads up display is Wondervoll! Less eye travel to see the vitals (tach, speed, and posted speed (I hope this is up to date LOL). 12) ZB looks different in person (in a good way). Doesn't look washed out or powder blue. Can look very deep in direct sunlight. People take notice both while driving and while parked. I think it will be like 2002 colors from the 1970's and that's a good thing. If you don't know what I mean just put BMW 2002 color chart in your google machine. Mine is Fjord Blau. 13) My Navigator is not thrilled with the owners manual Did get a headlight flash and a long side follow along from a M3 Competition. To be continued... |

Gonna dump my top of mind thoughts here:
Boy do I wish I had the carbon buckets - first highway off-ramp at speed I was sliding around the Merino Leather I will say they are VERY comfortable though - great for a long drive! I am also able to get them seated low enough for my comfort level, which is a huge plus. I do wish they were ventilated; seems an odd omission I was not a huge fan of iDrive 8 at first - I really don't like the huge tablet in a car thing, and it does look quite tacked on in the interior and not well integrated. Using it however completely changes my opinion - the screen quality is amazing - and having two high resolution Google Maps read outs when using Android Auto is a game changer. I am generally not a fan of BMW shifters; this one however is much improved on what they've used in the past. It's still no Miata, but far less vague then it has been. The clutch.... Not so great. Typical BMW vague bite point at the high end of travel. It is also stiffer than I was expecting for a factory car. I am hoping a CDV delete brings some life back into the pedal feel. Gear shift assist works very well - will take some time to wrap my head around it. I think for more laid back comfort driving I will appreciate it, and I've found I get along best with it the less I think about it. It's going to take some brain re-programming to not heel toe! Like many others, my "fun" M2 setting has it switched off. I despise the steering wheel - I have never been a fan of BMW thicc wheels, and this one feels like the girth has been stepped up a notch. The section behind the steering wheel buttons also extend out further than I might expect, making gripping the wheel more unnatural. The brake pedal is quite firm, and the pads feel quite grabby. The pedal feel is arguably... Synthetic. Could just be the subconscious knowledge its BBW, but I do feel like they are intentionally programming in a stiff grabby pedal, even in comfort mode. The rear seats are usable, however I'd say about 5'5 is the cutoff to fit without slouching to avoid one's head hitting the roof; shame given the versatility of the F87 Loads of room in the trunk, more than enough for a fully grown adult IMHO you can tell sitting in the car it shares a platform with larger siblings, though it does shrink around you when you throw it into a corner Suspension is a bit on the bouncy side even in comfort - not unmanageable however. I imagine there is only so much you can do to suitably dampen 3800lbs Last edited by InspectorSeb; 04-12-2023 at 11:19 AM.. Reason: Neglected to include gear shift assist |

Agree on iDrive. Takes some getting use to and digging around but it’s all there. Disagree on steering wheel. Love the chucky feel!

Yesterday at a stop light a city worker cutting grass on a commercial mower decided to take a break while I was stuck in traffic to stare at my car. The mouthbreather parked his mower directly parallel, upwind of me and dumped about 5lbs of grass and garbage all over my car while staring at it.
Last night was my third wash/detail in four days of ownership. A well kitted and detailed ZB has proven to literally be a jaw-dropper. |
