I think the review was spot on in terms of how you judge this car.

If you want a sporty coupe that can be a daily, has lots of useability (trunk space, rear seats) and will see 4 seasons of weather then this M240i is probably the best there is for the price.
If you want a true sports car that has raw feel and tons of driving engagement then there are much better options for the $$$.

I honestly see no point to get M440i over this car.
Hopefully the M2 will be a winner.

100% agree. Since the M240i turned out to be a bit of a "GT" car, it really does make the 440 pretty pointless unless you like the edgy styling. Makes the rumors of BMW combining the 4 and 8 series into a new 6 series (like in 2025) to be more believable.

Lol porsche will always win and its never close. Drive em back to back

The conclusion portion sums up BMW as a whole over the past 11-12 years. Great cars but most of the brand-defining fun factor has been engineered away to the history books, with just a couple of very expensive models still giving that BMW "feel."

Personally I'm not interested in this car. Straight line speed so pointless to me since you really can't really unwind the car on public roads. There's always a risk of getting a ticket since you never know where cops are hiding.

Steering/handling is what really speaks to me on a daily basis. If a car isn't lively handling and isn't communicating with me through the steering, then that car feels bored and so do I.

Yes, you are right, but I need to add about 15000€!!

And, for a daily use the M240i would be much more practical...

I just picked my G42 up, coming from a Tesla Model 3 I actually quite liked the steering, but I've never owned a sports car. Compared to the Model 3 the steering feels similar to the 'sport' mode steering, except that it's a tad heavier and I do feel a bit more communication with what's going on in the car.

What people say about center is true though (and that's saying something because I don't have much exp with sports steering at all), it's REALLY easy to get the car pulling to one side or the other without a ton of feedback, however I've always thought this was kind of the norm with cars? How is center supposed to feel on cars with communicative steering?

I do love the G42 though, looks and all. really enjoyed the little bit I've driven it. It's my first foray into what having a sportier car feels like, and I'm glad I'm back to actually feeling engaged when I'm driving vs when I was in the model 3.

If you don't mind me asking, which tires did you get with your car?

Unfortunately, the runflats. Had no idea about the speed limiter, but it's really not a big deal to me because I've never gone 110, let alone 130/155

I wonder if the steering feel that some people have commented on is specific to the tire selection. I seem to see more reviewers complaining about it with the non M Pro wheels and tires. Perhaps the Michelin's PS4 on the M Pro pack combined with the wider 245 size makes a difference. None of the reviewers with those better tires have had any comments about the steering being poor.

Power Steering Plus is similar to an option BMWs have had where the actual steering rack gear ratio is cut differently so you turn the steering wheel less to go from full lock left to full lock right. Makes parking lot driving easier but some prefer having the same gear ratio all the way from left lock to right lock so it remains a cheap option so you can pick your flavor.

In both BMWs and Porsches, you either buy that option or you don't and either way, your car's steering ratio is fixed one way or the other. In BMWs, the weight of the steering wheel and how much electric power assistance is available varies between Comfort and Sport modes (or 3 modes in cars like the F8x M3/M4) but in Porsches, none of the modes change the weight of the steering or the amount of steering feedback you feel through the wheel.

This is not accurate for all Porsche models.
On the 718 Cayman I am researching PSP is sold as a $310 (CDN) option or a software update after purchase.

On the 718 Forums there is a lot of debate about PSP, if I order a Cayman I will not check the PSP box, as once it is installed (PSP software feature) Porsche does not want it removed.

My 981 Boxster has PSP, I don't think it takes anything away from the overall steering feel and does make low-speed maneuvers very low effort. I think it was $250 US. I don't feel strongly one way or the other, but I don't mind it at all either.
