Friendly reminder I drive that exact spec Though I do have Sport+, upgraded steering wheel and gundo hacked exhaust. Paid $50K USD (67K CDN).

Spec isn't fancy but it's a hell of a colour it is a .2 cab at 50K and very reasonable miles.

A nice Vantage circa 2015ish still looks and sounds great, real head turner and maybe throw in a cab so you hear that engine and exhaust better.

There’s nothing “wrong” with the spec, it’s still a 911 and great car. It’s just not comparable in any way to a loaded GTS with a third of the mileage, accident vs no accident, and 3 years newer lol. I wouldn’t buy any plastic dash car with a front bumper drilled, but that’s just me. Other people don’t care and just want in on a cheap 997. Personally I always hunt for unicorn specs but takes a lot of searching and time to find them. Most 997’s don’t have full leather, even just finding those is hard to do.

It is indeed hard to find full leather but it has never bothered me in the slightest. I just don't care, it is a sports car, i never even use the radio, i just listen to the noise behind me. I was also set on blue or yellow so that narrowed the search immeasurably.

I started shopping for a GTS but once covid hit I couldn't justify the spend at over 100K CDN, so you're preaching to the choir in regards to liking the GTS but for me, in $CDN it would have been a solid $45K more for similar miles and i have kids to put through private school.

Ha!

Local school is really disappointing us so took a walk through the private school and yeah, goodbye $40K a yr in tuition for 2 kids. Given the tax rates here we need to find another $100K income to cove rit.

Good times.

LS swap the Miata Donatello.

Or get an R8. I would have gotten a R8 if I didn't need back seats. Love R8s.

Unpopular opinion but time you're not married with kids buying a 911 is stupid. Better cars for people who don't need a backseat.

LS swap a base model ND, not a 30th.

Again, R8s I want are out of budget. I could go pay $80k ish for a 2010-2011, but I don't think I want one that old

You are 100% correct & that is what I am doing.

I've been trying to think of other cars that I must have and really can't think of much of anything that I could actually afford.

I'm pretty happy with what I have.

I did put up some WTB ads for a driver quality C5Z. If I can find one cheap enough that is not junk, I'll probably add it to the fleet. Hoping for Electron Blue. Definitely no black.

The Hellcat or Miata are my daily unless it's raining or snowing or salt on the road. Then I use the Mazda6 or the wife's CX-5.

The Hellcat was actually my all year daily from new until right before last winter.

That price seems lol for a 2011, no?

The interior color is god awful IMO and I am just not excited about the interior in those older ones at all. Just couldn't do it unless it was some stupid amazing deal.

I am quite sure the answer to this is hell no, but are there any older turbo whale tail Porsches, that are not junk or need restored etc, that can be had for under or close to $100k?

That has been a bucket list car for me too. I have never driven one so that could change LOL

WHy you gotta call it stupid? It's just a conversation with car guys about cars.

The mid engined Cayman is a funner drive but imho they never look right, it's a car with two fronts and no rear.

How about a 996 turbo. Very unpopular due to the fried egg headlights.

And fine. Then how about V8 swap a base Miata.

Or buy a base Carrera and V8 swap that. I considered this option for quite some time. You can get 997.1 base carreras on the cheap.

I've always found the Cayman less fun. It's just too composed.

I call it stupid because there are just several cars that are better. Calling it stupid is harsh, but the point is that there's just better options if you don't need to stuff people behind you sometimes.

Technically the 996 turbo never got fried egg headlights. Also 996 turbos are crazy money now. 60k plus for one now, it's wild.

Again I will say, there is no point to a V8 swapped 911 unless you need the backseat. But then like... Why not just a car that came that way from the factory?

No idea what you're talking about other than the amber. I mean the non classic oval or circular shape.

https://bringatrailer.com/porsche/996-turbo/

Porsche is getting increasingly difficult to buy good example older models. Why? The new cars are big and they're not making the older ones anymore. They're desirable. So they are $$$.

If he wants one he should probably buy one now.

The fried egg headlights refers to the 996.1 headlights, the ugly ones. The Turbo model debuted with the 996.2 and so never had the ugly headlights.

The problem with the 996 turbo is it doesn't do anything better than a 991.2 Carrera 4S (or base 4 with a tune). The interiors of them are cheap. The chassis isn't that great. The motor doesn't make a ton of power. They're kinda crappy to live with every day. They're easily the worst generation of water cooled 911, and the "it's a Metzger engine it's a real race car" self indulgence only gets you so far.

At 40-50k, a 996 Turbo makes some sense. But when you've got wackos asking 70k or more for them, nah man, that's a bad deal. I don't care how much "they're not making them anymore" you say, they're making better cars now, and frankly, the 996 Turbo wasn't even that great of a car when new.

Agreed with you on most points. But if you want low cost of entry on a turbo 911 it's basically down to 996 generation cars at this point. OP mentioned being potentially interested in a turbo. So yeah.

New carreras are plenty spendy on their own and I'm not a fan of the turbo 6s. I'd steer clear unless it's a desired substance. Stick with turbo I6 from BMW or look elsewhere.
