5 1/2 hours billed time sounds about right. Probably take 1 hour max for the physical work and maybe 1/2 hour for software, that's about 5 1/2 hours total
Is that some of new math...1 plus 1/2 = 5-1/2?
Or are they also charging for tea and crumpets downtime. 1/2 hour for coding? It's not like they are recoding/programing the entire ecu or perhaps a really/really slow computer?

I think he’s being sarcastic/ironic about how BMW inflates it’s costs…

My right headlamp is now crazy bad, taking it in as it looks terrible!

Hopefully there isn’t a huge back order in the UK!

Lead time was a couple of weeks for mine (but so were workshop slots!) just make sure the dealer sees them in person with condensation in - but definitely looks like a clear cut case for replacement.

Had zero issues with condensation since mine were done, but they weren't as bad as yours are!

Mine was just as bad as yours and was replaced. Had no issues so far. There's probably a batch of defective ones early on.

It’s not unique to the G42. BMW have a history of this on many models

Covered under warranty

5 1/2 hours guys… I watched a guy on YouTube change one out in like 30 min

Not complaining though cause I got a tour of the basement parking 🤤😉😉😉

But just so you all remember…. 5 1/2 hours

Annndddd the cost is about $4,750 per headlight.

That’s all.

Anyone got some news on this matter?

I’ve complained like a crying baby to Bmw support and 3 different dealers 😂
Wont accept the headlights looking like shit on a new car, maybe if we bought a Dacia or some cheaper brand i could expect a lower quality.

Latest i got was approximately 2weeks ago and there was no new part number for the headlights at that time.
All the headlight replacements must have cost a LOT of money for Bmw.. instead of just find the issue and fix it

Mine are going in for their second replacement on 15th January. Having been replaced already in April. No question having them replaced. The dealer told me BMW have recognised this issue but not sure if a redesign is on the cards.

Bringing mine in on Monday. I was hoping that they'd pre-order the lights if I sent in photos, but no such luck. Both my lights look like rainforests.

After thinking about what causes this, as it clears after a few days of sitting without driving. The only explanation I can think of is when the engine compartment gets warm, hot air passes thought the light units and condenses on the cold lenses. The active grill being closed doesn't help matters I think.

You could be right with your theory, but as of now for me in this weather when it gets below 0 degrees the condensation just freeze inside and it always look bad 😏

I’ve heard some dealerships pressure test the headlights and if they can do that on the replacement units before shipping them to the dealer that would be good 👍
But if your theory is right it maybe doesn’t matter if the headlights are properly sealed or not 🤔

Not so eager to get them replaced again if not guaranteed it will be better as it’s a big job and last time they fucked up a lot of stuff..

Bad alignment and damage to the paint, even offered to repaint the whole bumper..
When i got back for alignment they did scratches on the hood so i had to polish it and remake the ceramic coating.

The one positive of bringing my car to inspect/replace the headlights
is that they gave me a 2024 M850i as a loaner. From the driver seat,
the cockpit very similar to the G42, but more lavish. The Merino leather seats are very nice and are ventilated as well as heated. The 4.4L twin turbo is also impressive.

That's how mine started, probably in the spring/summer. It progressively got worse until both headlights look like this:

I was watching this thread praying my car wouldn't be affected ('23 M2). Then this morning I see this walking back to the car from brunch...

Sorry to see this…
not something you want to deal with on a new car G42 or G87 both expensive enough to not have this kind of issue.

Merry Christmas anyway 🎁🎄🎅🏼
