honestly, and i hate to admit this, i've had about 4-5 speeding tickets for various speeds (20 MPH over max i think) and the most expensive one was $168.00 the others were around $134. so i dunno i just got one on friday after a 2 year clean streak so we'll see, but all these estimates seem rather high compared to my experience. and yeah next time don't ask

I think the fine structure is different all over California. 2 years ago I got a ticket in Riverside county for I think 79 in a 65mph and it was like $110.

I've also gotten out of a few tickets by immediately apologizing and admitting guilt before the cop even speaks.

^ Like the cop walks up to you and you break out, yelling, "Officer! I know I was speeding, I'm sorry!!" Lol.

When I got pulled over, I had my right hand in my pocket and I was leaning back. With my left hand, I put down my window. The cop came up to me and was like, "Sir, could you please remove your hand from your pocket? I don't see a need for your hand to be in your pocket at this time."

I was like, whoa - I didn't even notice. Thank God he was a nice cop, I can imagine getting pulled over here in Glendale. The cop would throw me out of the car, slam my face on my hood, and harrass me.

Always keep your hands on the steering wheel until instructed, and immediately turn the dome light on if it is dark out. Your goal should be to put the cop at ease, and not to be a dick.

Yeah, I know I should've had them on the wheel. It was 8:45am, I was in shock from what had just happened, and I wasn't even paying attention. But I wasn't being a dick, I was being cool. I apologized too. Even after I got the ticket.
