Nah, she's awesome (me). I'm taking three flights to get to South America for a really good price. 12 hours in Houston will be a breeze compared to where I'm going.

Most of the museums are in the museum district which includes the zoo and can be a cool place to go visit, its even right next to Rice university (the ivy league of the south) and the Texas Medical Center (worlds largest medical center).

Walking around downtown can be cool this time of year (depending on the weather), there's a bunch of restaurants and bars, and Discovery Green (downtown park) can be a cool place just to hang out.

Memorial Park is another good place to just hang out, although there isnt much to do around it (restaurant wise), it has a cool botanical gardens though.

I like Houston (my parents live there).
agreed!!!

Didn't Bourdain just do an episode in Houston?

BBQ. That would be my mission + airport lounges and you're good.

I'm making it to Peru in 2, and only because we WANT to stay in Mexico City for a week.

Mexico City was a stopover option but I don't feel safe there alone.

I'm pretty sure if you show up like this, you'll be fine.

Houston is making an effort to 'beautify' downtown for the super bowl...so it does look a whole lot better than before...but not sure what to do other than walk around...
Galveston too far
Kemah Boardwalk too far
Space Center too far (but possible)
Woodlands maybe? (going against traffic)

If no bbq, maybe tex-mex?

There is a sound dome at the airport (echo area). You can easily burn 4-5 hours in there making funny sounds.

Might as well cleanse your system on the plane so you when you land you're a whole new person!
