you guys should really give this thing a good drive before judging. I didn't know it was on sale already, but one of my neighbors purchased one fully loaded, and pictures can't do justice. You wouldn't know its a Hyundai unless you looked at the badging on the car.
I got a chance to drive it, and it feels SOLID. Sure, I didn't take it on twisty roads to test it's handling, and I didn't take it to triple digit speeds on the freeway. But I seriously think this is a serious, serious contender to it's german rivals. You can't compete with it being ~33% cheaper. Personally, I don't care what brand the car is. I purchased my BMW because I liked it's features, and the engine was phenominal. The interior is definately not what you're accustomed to seeing in Hyundais. The quality looks superb overall, although there are a few things inside that make you think "why couldn't they just spend $100 more and change that to make it better" The drive was VERY smooth, and I almost think it's got the comfort of a Lexus, and the driving passion of a BMW. Like others are saying, it's VERY obvious that they took the best of all the cars out in the market. The exterior is just mind-blowing. It looks solid, it's agile, and while it doesn't have that unique look German cars have when they first come out, it CERTAINLY does the job for me. I've driven everything from a Honda Accord all the way to a 55 AMG. Nothing beats this car's worth for money. If I were in the market for this sort of car, I wouldn't cross this Hyundai out of my list... it would ceratinly be my top 3

I think it's the aluminum-look (real?) trim on the brown plastic (leather?) Change that to black or more wood... it reminds me of the current S-class.

One thing is amazing about Hyundai, though - The 10 year / 100,000 mile warranty.
I saw a black Genesis in the downtown area of where I live a few weeks ago. At first, I thought I was looking at a Mercedes S-Class, and then from the side, it looked like a 5-series, and then I thought to myself who would buy a Hyundai for $40,000 when you could get something better for the same price, give or take? EDIT: But I think most of us are waiting for the Genesis Coupe to hit the market. |

Pontiac was also comparing the G8 to the 5 Series in their commericials. I think I would take the Genesis over the G8 any day !! Much better car than the G8.

Most Korean and Chinese cars look like cheap knock-offs of better cars on the market. Even Hyundai's logo looks like Honda's, except twisted. Has anybody seen China's new SUV?
http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums...ad.php?t=39499 I'm sure you'll get what you pay for with the Genesis, if not less. |

Comming from somebody who has owned quite a few different cars. I guarentee you will get more for what you pay for with the Genesis and less then that with the competitors. The Hyundai Genesis will be a solid , durable, reliable car among other traits. I look forward to test driving it. my BMW has been in the shop more then my Sonata , has less miles and has more squeaks. If i was in the market for a larger luxury car and not soo much into performance the Hyundai would be in the final cut. btw you guys see how much the FX50 is going for loaded 65k... uh pricing seems off for infiniti on this one. ppp

Is it really a $40,000 Hyundai? That's absurd.

yes, the brand snobiness, and ignorance, (borderline racism-i guess the same thing) are still surprising. "I HATE JAPAN" comon.
Geez, hyundai came out w/ a good car that seems to perform well at a good price for a different market. Not being sensitive but just pointin out facts. btw, Pacman328 hyundai is a korean brand and pacman was invented by the japanese |

Some of the crap that people are stating on this thread is exactly what people were saying about Japanese cars / products in the 70's. Like Toyota & Lexus, Honda & Acura, I am sure Hyundai will come up with a upper scale name brand in the future..... It is also interesting to note that Hyundai scored higher on quality than BMW on the carts posted earlier.

Correct. And in this article they say that it is a LUXURY SEDAN, but not a luxury SPORTS sedan. in no way does it compare to a BMW 5 series in real world driving. It has a harsh ride on rough pavement and a TON of understeer. BUT they say it is closest in fact to the Lexus, at half the price. Better than the slushy Avalon. I am an open minded car enthusiast and I will test drive the Genesis. I am also a driving enthusiast so I would probably never buy one, I learned my lesson a long time ago that for me Performance>amenities, not the other way around... So Kudos to Hyundai for upping the ante, but as long as their markets remain closed to OUR automakers I would never consider buying one.

I drove the G8 with the V8, and it is nice but I wouldn't buy one, the interior comfort leaves a lot to be desired and the manumatic shifter is too far from the driver....as well it is not as taut as a Bimmer.... For my money better to buy a used 5 series CPO for $40k than a Genesis or a Lexus or a G8 or whatever......
