I have a different way of offering support, it works for me....I have faith that MK is on this like stains on a mattress......see what I mean.

I met her when I was 15, and knew there was something special about her from the very first moment. I could feel her standing there, the way she looked at me, it was a calmness that blanketed everything. I remember it as if it were yesterday, though it happened 35 years ago.

Unfortunately, I was 15, had no real experience with such feelings, so I did nothing about it, and shortly thereafter began a serious relationship with a different girl. I didn't go out much, and did not see her again for 4 years, after that relationship had ended.

A friend of mine invited me to hang out for a day, check out his new-to-him car, and watch a movie. To my utter surprise, he had brought her along.

The thing was, he didn't know we had a thing for each other, and he secretly had a thing for her, but she was seeing someone at the time, so this was his way of inviting her on a "date" without arousing suspicion, it was "friend time."

Unfortunately for him, and her current boyfriend, what was between us remained, and the very next day she broke up with her boyfriend to be with me, and we started our first relationship.

I wish I could say it was bliss, but the truth is that I was still hurting over the previous relationship, and we had many other things against us. We were just starting out, and were still very young (19). I had a factory job, but still lived at home to save money. She lived on her own, but walked to work.

The relationship lasted only a year, and ended for reasons a bit too painful to recount here, but I can tell you that it took me the better part of 3 years to get myself back after the break-up.

Fast-forward 28 years later to December 1st, 2017 when I saw her again. It was like something out of a dream. She was so very different, and yet exactly as she had always been, and the feeling remained. There was a silent admission between us that our feelings for each other were timeless, and we knew, despite our current relationships, that we belong together.

It's at this point that I'll just say that we are not together because of circumstance, but that our love remains, and should the opportunity present itself in the future, we will be ready.

Sad fact, it' never really happened. I just didn't have much exposure to women as a young man and married the first woman that really paid attention to me.

I will most likely die having never really been there.

Fast forward to our senior year and she breaks it off with him. I am also at a place where I've broken up with my long-time girlfriend and have someone I've just started seeing. With this being a new relationship I would have been more than willing to break if off and ask out my dream girl.

However, my best friend was crushed by the breakup and I just could not bring myself to ask her out as it would have completely devastated him. So, I do nothing, stay with my new girlfriend who I eventually marry and have my first daughter with (although this did not last for very long).

Years later I learn that one of the big reason my dream girl broke up with my best friend was in the hope that I would finally ask her out. Oh well...

I've now had an amazing 30+ year marriage with my wonderful current wife and have a life I could only have dreamed.

My high school dream girl has also since moved to Colorado from California and she and her second husband (by the way she got back together with my best friend and they were married for around 20 years) live no more than 5 miles from me and we remain good friends to this day.

So while I sometimes wonder what if... I wouldn't go back and change anything. But who knows what might happen if we should both end up outliving our spouses!

I actually have another.
I lived in a little town and my best friend "Sherry" lived 5 doors down the street from me. She was a couple months older than me. When I was 9 we moved away. I had contact with her a couple times through elementary and H.S.

I mentioned the girl in 10th grade that I started dating when I was a senior tghat broke my heart later. Well "Sherry" wrote and asked If I would take her to her prom (my old school). My gf at the time said I could go. Ididn't.

Well fast forward about 5 years ago she sent me a message on FB and included a picture of both of us with one of my pet chickens. I was confused bc she included a pic. of herself at the age of 70. I actually thought it was her daughter..she looked so good BC I said how is your Mother Sherry.lol.

Well we became friends on FB. She got annoyed with FB and quit it. But we really caught up on old times. We email every couple of months. So in a sense probably another that got away. Its still kinda' neat.

That's why I like FB so many people I know from my HS and old workplace.

Keep 'em coming guys. Guys on the political forum that disagree with me and vice versa...we can find commonality here!!

MK, you and I are much alike. I have no doubts that you will reconnect and then it will go to shit shortly thereafter because....well, we're humans.

I don't have a "one that got away" story. If they got away, it was because I wanted them there or they wanted to be there. I try to remain fluid. If they wander off, another will wander along shortly.
