- One of the guides on those exotic car tours
- Wood working of some kind, making furniture or wooden bowls and shit - Fake farmer aka having some cows and what not for fun, I’m not butchering Leroy. - I use to be really into filmmaking as a kid. Wouldn’t mind doing something on movie sets. Although I’m not sure if it would be as fun now when everything is CG and you can get shot. |

I'd want to be a moderator on the BMW off-topic forum. The first thing I'd do is ban each and every one of you whiny, arrogant, content-free a$$hats. Then, there would be no more forum and I could go right back to retirement.
Just a joke people. I love most all of you! |

I'm currently retired but not by choice. My company was acquired by a competitor this past summer and they kept me until October. I was a VP and let the entire leadership team go, VP and above all C-Suite as well. I was there 21 years. I get paid for a year so no immediate rush but I have discovered I am not even close mentally to wanting to retire. I'm really struggling with boredom. I have painted the entire exterior of the house myself, sealed the driveway pavers, you name it. Out of home projects now. At my age it will be difficult to get a job similar to what I had and I understand that. I am willing to entertain less salary and responsibility. For grins, I applied and got an offer at West Marine (I'm a boater) but had a hard time wrapping my head around working an 8 hour day and not even making $100. To be clear, I don't have to work financially but damn all day and not even $100......
If anyone else has been through a similar situation would love to hear any thoughts you have. Thanks. |

First off to the OP - This is a Great Post!
For me and my wife, we spoke often about some of the things others have mentioned. We live close to the farming area west of Portland, Oregon. And have discussed that in 15 years or so we buy a small working farm, for something like hazelnuts and add a small boutique vineyard. But the farm would be a huge destination to foster and be a permanent home to as many cats and dogs as we could take in. I love the idea of having an old farm filled with all sorts of animals that we would have rescued. Plus tooting around in an old tractor and tending to the farm needs sounds awesome to me. Cheers, Merlin

Here's a question for those of you who've already retired. Have you seen yourself downsizing in retirement, or are you continuing with the same standard of living?
I struggle with this thought in terms of what type of net worth I'd need if I wanted to maintain my lifestyle, but also considering that some expenses will go away (i.e. childcare, mortgage, student loans, etc) while some expenses will likely increase (healthcare).

Yeah, that sounds like a humane thing to do. Those old dogs need someone to love them and take care of them.

One thing I neglected to mention is that if I take a paying job, it can reek havoc with my pension, even to the point of nullifying it.
But, that's not an issue for me. Any "work" I do outside the home is voluntary and with no pay. I know a few retirees who do voluntary community service in a variety of areas.

Let's take the Mustang PP2, GT Convertible I rented; - $65K brand new so there's significant depreciation - Insurance has gotta be $2K year - Maintenance - One's time to deal with customers, take photos every rental, service the car etc Revenue wise it is $300 a day, of which Turo takes some and lucky if it is rented what, 50 times a year? That's $15K revenue tops, less all those expenses.... i can't make it work. Maybe once you have a fleet and a formal business the cars can be written off tax wise? |

New PP2's are $60K+ then 13pc tax so closer to 70K than 65K in canada.
In terms of days rented, i think the warmer climate helps. No matter what dates I pump in for the next 3 months, every car I am interested in on Turo is available. |

It's always been welding for me. I've always had this picture in my head of turning towards welding, fabrication and working more with my hands once I hang up the tech-industry day job.

A fun sort of retirement job for me would probably be working somewhat as a porter for a nice luxury dealership. Low effort work typically and also getting to drive various different cars without owning or having to buy them, could be a lot of fun.

Doesn’t let you pick a trim, but if it’s a business then you would buy the most popular cars or the cars that give you the biggest return. Definitely not something I would do to rent out my own personal car, people will trash the fuck out of it.

Better yet, start your own rating system and figure out a way to make it official
