And 343 kW power because 343 km on full tank sounds sooo bad, unless it's in track pace

It makes sense for the Comp to be the AT car just like the M3/4 Comps are only AT. Comp models usually come out later after the base model is released which would make sense why the car was still in camo.

Can't say for sure, but seems to me there are too many clues and hints to ignore.
I only watched the Autobild video so far and in that one it seems to be pretty clear that the 50th anniversary wrap (with the bucket seats and the M seatbelts) is for the AT model, while the traditional wrap with the standard seats and the standard seatbelts is for the MT model.

And the latter looks like an earlier prototype, which is why it doesn't have the production seats.

In any case, M seatbelts on Competition models is a US-specific thing and this was a worldwide press event so I wouldn't read too much into it.

Further, the Autobuild guy also said both MT and AT had the same power output, I think he said 450 PS.

Finally, our resident source does not have a SOP for the competition model which usually means it is more than one year away, so while a competition model seems (internally) confirmed, I don't think the journalists sat in one.

After zapping through the Joe Achilles one I have to retract it - clearly the MT one he drives is the flashy one on the outside.

So either Autobild or (all?) the others messed up the exterior shots with the interior (my bet is on Autobild then), or (rather unlikely, as the number plates match up) there were 4 cars.

I don't see why BMW would steer away from their current base/comp strategy, with the comp model being auto-only and more powerful.

BMW people at the event told them the M2 is going to have F87 CS-level of power output, which is what they've all paraphrased but doesn't necessarily mean same output for the base and comp, or that the output is exactly like the F87's.

A base m2 being more expensive than a base m4? No way. It'll be a standard $4-5k inflation markup over last year, just like the m3 and the m4, which have already had their 2023 prices established.

Car and Driver said to expect "just north of 60k."

That front pic is interesting.
Very boxy looking front, sort of makes me think of E30.
But then I see the sides - and they are anything but boxy. Very 00s BMW. I dunno, I feel like designers didnt push too hard to make this a boxy car, I guess they dont have the OK from the top yet.

I want a return to boxy shapes done in modern way and done well (aka Ioniq 5).

Good post, dude! Fully agree on your observations and comes to the point I wrote above that it seems current car shape is disjointed from front which has to be returning back to boxiness.

Come to think of it, the IX (not the prettiest car) still works better than most BMWs today because they at least try to introduce new language as a whole. The IX grown on me, even though it still looks like a tardigrade from the front.

I really wish BMW was bolder and went to some cool shape and embrace with EV cars a different architecture. As for ICE cars - gotta maximise the looks, make them pretty or nice, without vulgarity that dominates. Otherwise they will just lose out.

Pretty sure Artemis has said no xDrive in the M2 - and as you say, that'd really start taking sales away from the M3/4!

Is the anniversary wrap pictured going to be an option? Because if so they can just take my money!

The ipad screen is such a turn off especially for what is supposed to be the last hurrah for ICE M car.

Hoping the styling will be great as i would love to pick one up but will be happy with my F80 as well.

I think since they have moved it to mexico I would expect paying about 5k more then the F87. It should be somewhere between 10-20k less then M3.

I am hoppying they do a special for the first 1500 sold to wrap up the 50th anversery as the m2 is the closet thing to a Pure M car.

It's actually the exact opposite, the car with the 50th anniversary wrap was the MT with the cheap seats while the zebra camo wrapped one was the AT with CF seats and M seat belts.
