Just depends what you read around here I guess. I have seen other posts saying they "will" add it as an option and that the Z4 will be around a while longer. No one has an actual working crystal ball so it's impossible to really know.

A manual Z4 (B58, non-M) rumor started because the BMW Z4 and Toyota GR Supra where codeveloped by the German and Japanese automakers and already share a majority of their overall structure and identical mechanical components. So the assumption was it would be almost no major R&D to drop the GR's manual transmission into a Z4, to maybe appeal to that segment of the market before the model had run out its course.

However, since the GR is gearing up to make its debut and a (B58) manual Z4 hasn't yet materialized, even as a concept, the rumor is slowly fizzling out into obscurity.

I would argue that you aren't driving them hard enough or driving the wrong Porsche. If you have been in a GT3 on track and aren't having fun, you don't have a pulse.
meh—-I've driven many Porsches on the street and track. "Fun" is not just about one or two mechanical features—-in fact it is often more based around playfulness and imperfections.

I've driven cheap hatchbacks that are FUN and I've driven sports cars that are FUN. It's not their ability that generates that enjoyment, it's the combination of how they do things, not what they do.

I've driven many capable Porsches, but none of them that felt fun in that instantly satisfying, playful way that I prefer in automobiles.

No car I've ever owned has fake engine noise.

Having said all that I had just as much with the M3, it wasn’t as pretty or fast, but it had a bigger personality for sure.

Good to hear. I have only driven one P-Car (first gen Boxter special limited numbered edition AT) for a short spin. I was not that impressed with the dynamics of the car (responsiveness and steering feel). The only memorable part of that experience was having the engine right behind me. It has been to this day the only MR car I have ever driven. I have never driven a RR car in real life. I am an amateur sim racer with an entry level rig.

Personally, the most fun, dynamic cars I have driven remain BWMs. Nothing else came to that level for me. I am curious to hear your opinion on BMW "feel" comparing to P-Cars.

The 986 you drove is more akin to a Miata then a modern Porsche in the way it drives. They were softly sprung, the automatics weren't good, the manuals were spongy and full of plastic, the engine was blah, etc, etc ,etc. They aren't a representation of the modern Boxster, Cayman or 911.

Good to know. This substantiates the underwhelming impression the car left gave me. Thanks. P-Cars are really out of my price range. I guess I could hunt a used 911 but I am so picky that whenever I look, there is nothing to my liking within what I can pay.

I test drove a 991.1 CS and then drove a Cayman S. It wasn't even close the Cayman was so much better than the 911. I sold my Cayman S because when I took it to the track with my E92 M3, the M3 would easily outperform it at the track. I miss the Cayman S as a daily it was a great car, guards red beautiful. Before I would consider a 911 I would drive a Cayman, they are just better. My friend has a 991.1 Targa S and a 981 Cayman S. He also prefers the Cayman. 911 snobs just turn their nose up at Caymans.

I would keep my E92 M3 over a Porsche 911 S 991 or 997. Way more of a special motor and great body lines.

Have you driven an M40i? I have a X3 M40i with a tune drove it back to back with an X3M, the M40i was faster and $20k less.

Do you think it is due to MR vs RR setup? I would love to go Cayman but I want 4 seats.

I think overall it is just a better car, lighter weight more nimble better chasis dynamics. I loved mine, I wish I wouldn't have sold it.
