waze allows users to mark areas of concern (cars on the sholder, junk sitting on the road, heavy traffic, and cops sitting in traps). its not perfect because people have to actually mark the cops but i find that 99% of the time people have already marked them and they're displayed on the map. the other 1% they must have just got set up and in that case i do the marking.
its also super great for red light cameras and speed cameras.

I was SO bummed when I found out my M240i was getting the iDrive 8 curved screen + the M-illuminated trim. I very strongly did not want either of those options.

However, now that I've driven the car for around 2 weeks...I freakin love em both

I have Waze installed but I don't use it often. The V1 Gen2 has been insanely trustworthy for me. I do open up Waze here and there, and I really want to like it, but so far it has not grown on me. Something I've found frustrating is that there are always mysterious icons like emoticons on the Waze map and I cannot figure out what they are. One time I even pulled over, determined to find a comprehensive map legend for Waze, and if one exists; I never found it. I'm sure I could take a picture and post it to a group and an experienced Wazer could tell me what it is… but for me personally, a non intuitive interface on a driving accessory is a no-go.

What's up with the quadrilaterals to the inside of the tach and speedo? Looks like something a 2nd grader designed.

I can do the same thing in my '22...or I can do it all by touch, which I do more often than not.

I like Waze, but it's not my choice for the displayed map as I prefer the OEM nav. However, I will sometimes open Waze and then switch back to the OEM map, as doing this allows Waze to speak when a cop or obstacle is ahead.

Another problem with relying on Waze rather than a radar detector (I highly recommend the Uniden R8) is often times the cop will sit there with his own phone and tell Waze the cop is no longer there.

You'd think the geniuses at Waze would require 2+ "cop no longer there" reports to take it into consideration, to avoid cops deleting themselves from the map.

I would probably Get used to ID8 but I am with you on the shifter. Since my first car which was a 67 Camaro I bought in 1969, I love having my right hand on the shifter while I drive. Yes, they were all sticks until 2007, but I continue to do that. Even in my Jeep Liberty. Could be a dealbreaker for me.

Evolution

When I first started to drive the shifter was on steering column. Don’t remember having to touch it once in 3rd gear ! Had all sorts of room on floor in front of seats. I have had to evolve a bit in my years of driving.

Not having a tall shifter to rest your hand on, is almost definitely a problem that exists only in your anticipation. As if you have to just awkwardly hold your hand in the air now with nowhere for it to intuitively be. ID8 cars do still come with the big round handrest in front of you; so there is always that.

To Busy

Your right hand will be busy touching the display all over the place looking for the button that does the thing you think you want at the time. Or slapping the passenger hand away from touching the big, beautiful screen. I see many options to the having the shifter hand rest.

When you are used to something "comfortable" for almost 5 decades and then it is not there anymore, tell us how much you want that change.

Anyone know if the dash for the 23 would be interchangeable with a 2022 I assume the measurements can't be too far off the only hard part would be to code everything properly…thoughts???

Not the dash but reading this thread it did make me wonder if the 22 shifter could be retrofitted into the 23 console.... It's not linkage connected but electronic right?? Too easy to be just plugnplay eh??
