I like the last 3 on the OP’s updated list. A female friend loves her CX-5. I would die of boredom. The Stinger GT would be the most fun to me. The GV70 probably has the best combination of blend of practicality, comfort/luxury and performance.

She wants to check out others before actually buying anything. Why are you so concerned? Good day.

It sounds like a CX-5 or CX-50 is the way to go. For not wanting to stand out though, a Honda, Subaru, or Toyota would be a better vehicle choice to "blend in". The CR-V and RAV4 are nice vehicles, but I would still choose the Mazda over them.

Thankfully, she's not interested in any of those. I'd pick the Mazda over them too

Just pull the trigger and buy one for her.

Park it in the driveway with a bow on it. The CX-5 looks great in Black, Machine Gray Metallic, or Crystal Red Mitallic.

My 2 cents.

CX-90 is likely too big.

Must have 4 doors w/heated seats. She says she wants an SUV because of the typical "like to be high up"

She is also not interested in Honda, Toyota or Subaru.

She is weary of anything with a badge that could attract attention since she is a teacher in the ghetto.

Potential options are:

Explorer ST
Edge ST
Elantra N
CX-5 (What she keeps talking about even though she has driven NOTHING else yet.)
GV70
Stinger GT2 AWD
CX-5, she gave you the answer.

I drove a CX5 before I got my X1 a long time ago, this was before the turbo was available and it's a very nice vehicle. My son drives a mazda 3 and it's amazingly nice for the money. I'd just go that route, she likes it, it's relatively cheap and it's a nice car.

After driving her parents' CX-5 several times, she is not so sure she wants an SUV and may stick with a sedan.

She drives her Mazda6 like it's a Miata LOL SMH

Not sure if this would interest her, but you might want to take a look at the Hyundai Kona Limited. It’s pretty small, but it doesn’t sit up very high like most SUV/Crossovers. The Limited has 195 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. It performs pretty well and drives pretty well. Hyundai has been offering 2.0% financing which may end today, but I think the odds are pretty good it will carry over to August. And, of course, it has the 5/60 bumper to bumper warranty and the 10/100 powertrain warranty. It also has 3/36 maintenance and 5/unlimited roadside assistance.

The Hyundai website makes it very easy to check local dealer inventory. The Limited is very well equipped and has a lot the lower levels don’t for just a few hundred dollars difference. The AutoNation dealer here near O’Hare airport offered $1,600 off the MSRP right off the bat. They even offered to do that for a car we were talking about them bringing in from another dealer a couple of hundred miles away.

Anyway, it’s worth taking a look.

Updated my OP

She keeps cars forever so this will need to be reliable long term. She commutes into the city so no manual transmission. She does not want Wrangler, EV or truck, either. Can be used or new. We're not paying ADM on anything. Period.

Must have AWD (FWD will work for right vehicle) 4 doors w/heated seats & leather. A heated steering wheels + cooled seats would also be nice. At first, she wanted a SUV, but after now driving her parents' CX-5 a lot, she may stick with a sedan as her driving style is thinking her current Mazda6 is a Miata lol smh.

She is also not interested in Honda, Toyota or Subaru. No BMW, Audi, MB as long term reliability & long term cost of ownership = no thanks.

We drove a 2020 Stinger GT-Line AWD & new AWD Mazda3 yesterday. This particular Stinger did not have the highest level trim option (Interior) Other than that, the Stringer is still an option. The Mazda3 was disappointing. Too much wind noise (All windows were closed, but sounded like a window was open the whole time) and the suspension was surprisingly way too rough for what thet car is IMO.
Local Hyundai dealer did not have a Elantra N on the lot

Probably cap the price around $40k

Potential options are:

Explorer ST
Elantra N
CX-5
GV70
Stinger GT2 AWD
ATS-V AWD

It sounds like she doesn’t want a car of any sort, perhaps a magic carpet?

Otherwise just feels like the OP is taking everyone for a ride (probably in a CX-5).

She swore off all Japanese other than.....Nissan/Infiniti? Hate to be the one to point out the obvious, the answer is an Altima

The new Mazda CX90 has a heated steering wheel and ventilated seats. The CX90 is about 2 inches longer than an Explorer ST.

latest quote when Dontello called out for his weird behavior on this forum

"Sounds like you're a troll. Ignored"

dude has a 3 page thread talking about new DD driver options for his wife, we have exhausted literally every vehicle option and he non-chalantly shoots everyone down. Like why create the thread?

instead of communicating with his wife, he comes to this fourm and takes out his contempt on us.

I am on the ignore list like many others so this forum is his safe space.

heres a clue, talk to your wife and buy a car bro, its not that deep

weird dude for sure
