Not that I condone profanity, of course.
The short answer is it depends (cop out, I know)

I would say that if your investments derived from assets (non-earned income) can sustain your total daily living expenses without you having to work (that includes all of the ppl you support) + no debt + enough money left over that you can buy your desired item in cash per month = FU money

In other words, if you have to save up, make compromises, choose between things, then you don't have FU money. It should feel like you're walking into the dollar store to buy a piece of candy.

My father passed 6 years ago, but spent the last 9 years in a great facility. When we moved him there in 2008, it was $7k a month and when he passed in 2017 that had risen to $8.5k.

The rooms were like really nice, large hotel rooms with private baths and a large window, they emptied into a 30-foot-wide hallway that had sofas, chairs, televisions and the hallways lead to the entrance area which had a grand piano where people would come to play for residents.

There were 3 identical buildings and the grounds had extensive gardens with walkways, koi ponds and beautiful landscaping.

As nice as it was, it was for people suffering from dementia and everything was locked down tight, it was effectively a prison.

I had an order in. I was disappointed in the paint options mostly and wasn't thrilled with the wheels. I had dreams of Isle of Man green with brown interior. Wasn't meant to be.

I decided to pick up a CPO 2022 X3M Comp. Found one with everything I wanted except the wheels for a decent price and jumped. Really enjoying it so far.

I'm still really looking forward to seeing the G87 in person and could be interested again in 4 years when the warranty is up on my X.

People assume being locked in a place is like a prison, which makes it clear they have never spent a day behind bars (at least here in USA).
This made me chuckle but so true , having previously lived in NL . They are very lax on crime & punishment. Huge cells with a bunch of amenities & certain facilities even give inmates their own keys.

This is way off topic I know , but compared to Cali level 3&4 prisons. Cell living is basically the size of a small bathroom, double metal bunks with a shit foam mattress. Did a 4 year term back in the day when I was 18 , bounced around Delano,Wasco & Ironwood in Blythe

But as far as FU money goes , I guess about 3m liquid. Not counting any property, vehicles, stocks/bonds etc.

But yeah, luckily I'm near FU $

I'm sorry that someone calling doors being locked for an individuals well being is being compared to prison.
That's great you have been able to come from being in absolute hell (jail) to almost having FU money. Good job.

I was #1 at my dealership, placed my order and a month later I cancelled it. In the end, I couldn’t come to terms with the how completely disconnected the vehicle’s design is from the front to the back. The interior is way overdone.

I’m getting old (51) and definitely not who the designers drew this thing up for and that’s ok. These are all my personal opinions though and i’m happy for those of you who do like it.

I was #4 at my dealer and received a May production slot (got on the waitlist mid-2022).

I had owned an OG Manual M2 previously (I thought it was a fabulous, though under powered car). This was going to a third, fun weekend car I was planning to keep for a year or so.

I ultimately passed on the allocation because I couldn’t get past the overall look of the car (I don’t like the direction the brand is going in general) and I’m not sure how values will hold up (given that this was a 1 year rental and given that allocations seem to be flowing well).

I saw the looks and weight and said nope, I’m cancelling. Trying to pick which color hides the ugly was a light bulb going off that this isn’t the car for me anymore. Lastly I was looking for a more connected car and I kept hearing although m3 manual was sharp but numb in steering and suspension. Based on the mix of the m3 manual review, looks, weight, the sum just didn’t make sense to me. Went else where.

I'm debating the same thing. I can definitely use the 4 doors and backseat of the M3. I worry that the M2 will sit in the garage and I will drive the X5 instead, because nobody wants to sit in the back of an M2. And I don't want to drive an SUV if I can help it. So the M3 makes much more sense, but it's $20K more expensive just so I can drive the family around once or twice a week.

Has nothing to do with the car, but rather its intended use. I already have a reliable DD and don't need my "sports car" to have a daily focus in anyway. I wanted my weekend toy to be a back-to-the-basics, pure sports car and so I'm in search for that instead.

Had I needed a 1-car solution, I would've bought this hands down. The M3 is awesome too, but not 100% in love with its looks. Can't wait to see the forum members start posting pictures of their cars!
AGREE!
I am NEXT at my dealership, I spoke to the store GM personally. But...
I went into the reviews unbiased but looking for a select couple of phrases. Unfortunately, I did not here what I was looking for, in fact a couple of reviewers (a couple of which seem to have similar driving likes/styles as I do) said the exact opposite of what I was looking to hear. I DONT WANT a GT car, I want a hoonigan. I want to struggle to keep the car in a straight line when leaving a corner, I don't want to have to push the car to high revs to feel on the edge. Straight line top end mph's are NOT my bag (baby...). I don't enjoy track days as much as others.
I was hoping to hear 7 of 9 reviewers say "WHOA, be careful or you will lose the ass end" or "wow, this gets sideways easier than the last one" I held my breath during the TH reviews, as I really like how Thomas feels about the "fun" M2. The only video that started to change my mind back was a 3 min POV at a track with a couple of deer in the way.

Me and two buddies are starting a "car club" where each of us brings a $ amount to the table, we will trade cars on a bi-weekly basis and store them in a hangar at the local airport. (Ping-Pong table, dart console and bar already purchased) Kids are just starting soccer and football so I have no idea when I will enjoy said cars
SO, needless to say, I have a tough decision coming my way in the next 2 weeks. Every night I am scouring the internet for an exquisite example of a one owner M2CS who is not an ass demanding 25k over msrp. The M2C didn't really do it for me, but maybe I can pick one up and throw some mods on it to juice it up a bit.

I think I’m the opposite. I don’t want the car sliding too much. However… the M2 has MDM and 10 stage traction control. If you prefer to be on edge and have fun, just dial down the traction control to whatever you want. I didn’t understand why that wasn’t brought up in reviews.

I'm starting to realize a theme with your posts about always being in the market for something but never actually buying anything. Is it just me? If you're not into the G87 market, and you're in the M2CS market, maybe go play in that forum?

yeah not sure what bmw told them during the test run in AZ. They might have said they weren't allowed to turn off. Or they maybe they did turn it off and the limits were too high to safely do it on a public road.

one thing i do know is we need chris harris to sort this issue out for us

I’m on the fence as well, for the same reason as a lot of others. I’ve currently got an OG LCI. It’s got an M Performance exhaust, coilovers and it’s tuned to 420 hp and 400 tq. As it is, the character and the capability is perfect. So much so that I had a 2020 M2C at the same time and when I had to choose between the two, I kept the OG and sold the Comp.

I wasn’t too crazy about the styling of the new car, but I was definitely interested in features like the adaptive suspension, highly adjustable driving modes, temp gauges, shift lights, build quality, nicer interior, and the hopefully reliable S58. It’s got a warranty and seems to have enough power that it doesn’t need a tune. It was going to come down to whether the character of the car was enough to get me over the styling. I drove one on Saturday, and it was extremely impressive as a car, but maybe not what I’m looking for. I want my fun car to have more the character of a sports car, not a GT car. My OG M2 is a rowdy punk of a car, and that’s why I love it. I love a car that can bite you if you don’t know what you’re doing. The most memorable cars I’ve owned and loved all had that in common.

On the flip side, I owned a 2017 Camaro SS with the 1LE track package, which is basically all the goodies from the ZL1 slapped into a 455 hp car. That car in 2017 had a lot of the stuff going for it that the G87 does. It had a better adaptive suspension. It had more customization of driving modes and traction control. It had crazy amounts of grip that would allow you to carry ridiculous amounts of speed through a corner, but still be able to break out the back end easily if you adjusted the driving modes. It was a car that could ride like a GT car with all the nannies turned on (except for tram-lining all over the place because of the super wide tires), but even so it was a car you immediately knew you had to respect, or it would kill you. I can deal with a car that has that sort of Jekyll and Hyde personality, as long as the car can still bring it and scare the shit out of you when you turn the nannies down.

From my brief drive of the G87 on Saturday I got the feeling that it could possibly be that kind of car, but I’d need more time behind the wheel to know for sure. Or I can wait for Chris Harris to answer that question for all of us. In the meantime though, the prospect of ditching the F87 that drives exactly the way I want it to in exchange for a $75k car that may or may not do it for me is a daunting prospect.

Damn, you are my twin. #12 in Nov of last year and #2 as of last weekend. I was told I will probably get an allocation next month. Life is good.
