I talked to my insurance broker today. Staying with AutoOwners insurance which all our house and auto stuff is bundled the quote was $2060 annually for the M2. I think I could find something 300 to 400 bucks a year cheaper but AutoOwners is fantastic to work with. I think my previous car (19' M240i) I paid about $1400 per year.

I'm 42, clean driving record, great credit, and the M2 would be indicated as casual/low mileage driving.

Have had previous auto insurance policies with Geico and State Farm; Geico has been great when I've had to rely on them, haven't really had to use State Farm.

At least for my area, many insurers won't even give online quotes, and at least one (Progressive) refused to even offer a policy on the M2 (even after calling them).

Gotten online quotes from Liberty Mutual (cheapest, if enrolled in their tracking program though I'm not a big fan of this), Geico, and Hagerty. I have no experience dealing with LM or Hagerty, so appreciate if anyone could share their experiences with them. Price wise, they were all in the $1600-2000 range per year for 100k/300k and $1k deductibles.

Leaning towards going with Geico at this point, but wonder if I should call around to any others. Anyone had to use insurance recently on their M2 (or other car) and if so, how was the experience?
We own cars in New York and Arizona. The 240 in New York, at first glance, was far more expensive than our 240 in Arizona. So, I began researching smaller/regional companies and signed for a rate similar to Arizona.

Have not yet received premium notification for the Arizona M2. Waiting for bad news.

Update of sorts. For 6 months my M2 premium is now $774. I'm retired. No tickets. No claims. My 2024 BMW 230i xDrive is my daily driver. The M2 is my pleasure car but State Farm doesn't have such a classification. Has the M2 listed for school/work/pleasure with a 12K miles per year. (The lowest amount.) I have put just over 6K miles on the car which I bought on April 14 of 2023.

I was pleasantly surprised last year when the premium was reduced from just over $800 every 6 months and it is my belief since the M5 was now 5 years old the premium was reduced by almost $200 every 6 months. Here are some other vehicles I inputted into the USAA insurance quote program. All quotes are for 6-month premiums with the same limits of coverage that I carry on all my vehicles.

Most expensive to insure to least expensive:

24 Porsche Panamera Turbo S: $2,167 ** MSRP over 200k***
24 Alpina B8: $2,007
24 X6M Comp: $1,875
23 M8 GC: $ $1,859
23 M5 Comp: $1,778
24 Porsche 911 GT3: $1,347
24 Porsche 911 S Coupe: $1,215 MSRP 155k
24 Porsche Cayenne Coupe Turbo S: $1,187
23 M3 Comp: $1,134
24 X5M Comp: $1,128
23 Corvette Z06 3LZ: $1,119 MSRP 155k
23 Audi RS3: $969
24 M2: $952
23 Dodge Challenger Hellcat Red Eye: $881
24 X3 M: $850
23 Cadillac CT-5 V Black Wing: $848
24 Porsche Cayman GT4 RS: $824
23 Cayman GTS: $793
23 Cadillac CT-4 Black Wing: $777
23 Boxster GTS: $771
23 Cayman S: $770
24 M340i: $759
24 X3 M40i: $753
23 Corvette Z51 2LT: $729 MSRP 96k
24 Porsche Cayenne S: $716
24 Toyota Supra: $699
24 VW Golf R: $689
23 Porsche Macan GTS: $657
18 M5: $608 My vehicle
24 Honda Civic Type R: $583
24 Acura Integra Type S: $567

Interesting take away for me is how much a 23 M5 cost to insure ($1,778) compared to my 18 M5 ($608), $1,170 difference with the same coverage. I know not everyone can join USAA but I have my homes and vehicles insured with them and the insurance premiums and customer service has been top rate.
USAA is far from top rate these days. All their services have gone to crap. So much so that I pulled all my money from them about 2 years ago. They made it impossible to add my wife to my accounts and we had lots of issues getting my daughter's accounts set up. Not to mention they dropped me because I had 4 not at fault claims in 2 years. Yes I said not at fault. I had a tangerine scream Focus ST that got ran into 5 times in 3 years. USAA dropped me over that. For years I couldn't even get a quote out of them, now they are more expensive then Geiko for me.

Never again.

As for my insurance. I have been with progressive since then. The M2 with a teen driver on my policy is 850 every 6 months with a 500 dollar deductible. My policy with 4 cars on it (3 full coverage) is what some of you are paying for just your M2 and that's nuts.

Look into insurance brokers too. They'll basically take your coverage requirements and shop the best rates to meet them. Personally mine has come back to the same company the last couple of years so they haven't had to switch. Premium only went up a few bucks a month going from the Mustang to the G87 so no real sticker shock. I'd be scared if doing that one in NY instead of AZ though lol.

Yeah, I eventually moved from State Farm to LibMut because they make it super easy to adjust mileage targets as things change. I've got my M2 set to low mileage during the winter and will bump it back up when I start dailying it again.

How do a lot of you people not have any tickets? I've upped my countermeasures game recently but still have 6 or 7 speeding tickets from the past. (I'm early 30s)

Hopefully you M2 owners don't drive 'em like grandpas 'cause what's the point of having an M2 then? One of my biggest pet peeves is seeing a really nice car being driven like it's some 15 yr old in driver's ed behind the wheel, just give me your nice car and I'll drive her properly.

Keep in mind location. Theres basically nowhere where i live where i can drive fast without being an absolute danger to everyone around me. Theres just that much traffic. That being said i generally save my high speed driving for the track. Thats where it belongs. I havnt received a speeding ticket since i was 23 and i'm 39 now.

However if i lived in basically any of the mid-west states where theres just wide open stretches of road, you bet your ass i'd put my foot down more often. But just not possible here.

Farmland. Find some farm roads, go nuts. Roads are usually very long, very straight, and cops don't hang out there so much.

And I personally can have fun at quite modest speeds, banging through apexes, taking advantage of empty onramps and offramps. No need to be in triple digits to have fun.

Also running into similar issue with insurance for my incoming m2. “Cheapest” I have found is 1700 a year from progressive. Suprised someone here said they wouldn’t cover m2 through progressive but they had no issue quoting me. Cincinnati was next cheapest at 2400/yr

I just renewed my first full 6-month term with Progressive, paying $422.00 for M2 with the following coverage:

Bodily Injury & Property Damage Liability
$250,055 each person,$500,055 each accident,$100,055 each accident

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury
$100,055 each person,$300,055 each accident

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Property Damage
$100,055 each accident,$250 deductible

Mind you, this is a multi car, multi policy account.

Because I respect traffic laws . I've owned high-performance vehicles since I first got a license. 1 speeding ticket in 31 years & I wasn't actually speeding. Cop claimed I was doing 55 in a 35, but had no radar and stopped me in a 55 zone. Beat it in court.

I currently have ~1,700 hp among 3 vehicles in my garage. There's a time and place, and it isn't public roadways occupied by other motorists.

That is a great rate with Progressive, I see you are listing Germany as your location. Out of curosity, Progressive quoted me at 58 years of age and a clean driving records with no collisions, $1,534 for full coverage for 6-months of coverage. Geico for the same coverage is $1,258 for 6-months of coverage with a 500 comp and collision deductibles. I also live in San Diego County in California and location does play a part on how much your insurance will cost. I have only found one company years ago that was cheaper and that was CostCo insurance however they would not insure my motorcycles and the home insurance for my two homes cost more which made my total policy with my homes and vehicles more then USAA.

Having driven a high number of times from the SF Bay Area to central MO and back again and just all over the western portion of the US by various routes that included a mix of freeway and non freeway roads while there are wide open stretches of road outside of the SF Bay Area and the Central Valley and beyond they are not free of law enforcement presence. My V1 (and a hand held CB radio to listen to big rig driver bear reports) often made it clear in spite of the wide open stretch of road ahead of me it was still being patrolled. Mainly on the ground but not always....

On the way back to home in the SF Bay Area I was on west bound I40 about halfway between Needles and Barstow and spotted a small plane flying very low and off to the side of the freeway and it looked like it was pacing my car (996 Turbo). I was running probably 10mph over -- the V1 had been silent -- but it struck me odd. My experience/observation is while small private aircraft fly along the I40 route they fly above the freeway and by some several thousands of feet. I slowed down just to be safe. Just a few moments later the V1 chirped. I drove on. In less than 2 miles as the east and west lanes of the freeway came back together I spotted 2 CHP cars parked on the side of the east bound lanes. Both had their radar guns on which is what my V1 picked up. They were there to support the "bear in the air". Drove past with my halo glowing and that was that... (Gave the V1 a nice pat for a job well done!)

But far and away it is the bear on the ground one encounters most often.

On the way east on that same stretch of road -- in my Turbo -- and at night some guy in a late model Lexus was in a hurry. He had come up behind my car as I was dealing with a bit of congestion arising from big rigs. As is always the case they eventually sorted themselves out and the left lane was clear and I passed the big rigs. The Lexus driver was hot on my tail. I pulled over to make way and about that same time the V1 chirped. So after I made way for the Lexus I made sure my speed was 70mph.

With me and my car out of the way the Lexus driver was presented with what he believed would be a wide open stretch of freeway. We crested a bit of a rise the lack of headlights and taillights ahead gave the Lexus driver confidence he had the road to himself. He put the hammer down in earnest.

Just moments later the V1 went crazy. I slowed down to 65mph. By this time the Lexus was a good distance ahead of my car. A CHP car on the shoulder lit up like a Christmas tree and about the same time I'm sure the Lexus driver spotted the dark shape of the car on the shoulder. Too late. I drove on and passed the Lexus pulled over.

The above were both in I40 but I have stories of a similar nature from any number of areas. Up on I70 going across Nevada. While that looks like an empty stretch of wide open road it ain't...

And oh the bears "hiding" in the heat shimmer on that pretty flat section and as an empty stretch of road one might find of I70 between NV and Salt Lake City. Except it is not empty...

Further east...Running kind of hot on I44 this after leaving OKC heading east towards Joplin MO. Had a young woman driving a Chrysler Crossfire keeping up with me. (I was in my 2002 Boxster.) Had the V1 volume cranked up to 11.

Things were pretty cool but not too many miles inside MO the V1 went crazy. I pumped the brakes a few times to give the woman a signal then slowed down to the limit. We drove on. I caught the faint silhouette of a patrol car on an overpass ahead with an officer standing behind it. V1 was going crazy. Passed under the overpass. Based on experience I took a look to the right and there was a line of MO state trooper cars parked on the side of the on-ramp ready to take off after a "customer" the instant the trooper on the overpass gave the signal.

At night going southwest on 54 highway crossing the TX panhandle on my way to Tucumcari NM. In my Boxster. Road ahead pretty empty. Drove for miles. Making good time. Then spotted a big rig approaching. V1 went crazy just as I got real close to passing the big rig. Instant on radar I guess because as I passed the big rig spotted what proved to be a Sheriff's car -- it was in fact the Sheriff -- tucked in behind the big rig. The car slowed whipped a u-turn and pulled me over. Ticket. Thankfully TX has probation before adjudication and I opted for this and after 6 months with no more citations paid something like $75 court fee and that was that. God I love Texas!

I have a million stories. The AZ state troopers who like to hide in the middle between where 93 branches south from I40 all the way to Flagstaff. But 50 miles east of Flagstaff got pulled over so they are not all confined to the west of Flagstaff.

On I20 west of DFW the local police of almost every town along that stretch of I20 who like to hang out at night in the middle of I20 west waiting in the dark for some driver who thinks the road is empty.

The late night blast from eastern CO through KS -- this on 50 highway -- and dodging (but not always successfully) tumbleweeds when the V1 out in the middle of no where chirped. Slowed down. Dead silence from the V1. Picked up the pace. Short time later the V1 issued another alarm then silence. Not wanting to risk it stayed at the limit. Then in a moment or two spotted headlights in the distance. A bit of hilly terrain so the head lights would appear then disappear. But they were closing. Finally could see an approaching car. And you guessed it. A bear. Sheriff's car. After it passed the V1 was silent and it was just me and the Boxster in the blackness of KS...

Left Germany many years ago. The 325i I had was totalled and I ended up not coming to these forums for a long time. (I got cut off and was one of the accidents USAA used against me)

GEICO has never been close to competitive for me. I am in the metro Atlanta area and there are a lot of uninsured/unlicensed drivers. I would be close to 1300 every 6 months for all my vehicles if my daughter came off my policy.

The measure of a good thief is how much they’ve stolen, not the amount of time they’ve spent incarcerated.

Insurance companies in Colorado are fucking everyone over in this new year. Our renewal skyrocketed overall, and the M2 went up from 198 to 230 a month with USAA.

I’m paying $2800 a year for 3 cars in NJ with Plymouth Rock. The M2 is $882.
