Sad to see the vacation state like this.
Lots of old homes and old Oaks that have weathered 100+ yrs of storms friend.

Note the parishes in red down south: nailed by hurricanes in 2020 & 2021 and his data was before Francine.

The ones in the north east of the state there isn’t shit up there and a crappy place to live.

LA isn’t by far the most attractive state to live in but the people in these parishes tend to be die hard long lineages. They just couldn’t afford to rebuild.

Another thing to add for anyone who goes through a storm. Take a video of the entire inside of your home prior. It’s great for documentation. It’s also date and time stamped.

Not sure if it’s been said, but Atlanta Motor Speedway has opened up their gates for evacuees. Camp grounds are open for RVs and the like for those that may be heading north.

Yep. Our afternoon and evening storms are probably worse. I have my hurricane box in the garage ready to go on June 1 every year. The only thing I have to do is is move all of my patio furniture to the garage and put up a few shutters in the back of my house if we get a Cat 2 or higher. I also watch from which direction the winds are coming, and this SW winds really won't affect my house too much. I'm hoping this storm weakens and doesn't desimate the west coast.

I decided to move the living room furniture, put down a plastic drop cloth and move the patio furniture into the living room this morning. Only took about 30 minutes and much easier than moving to our garage, which is currently clogged with 2 cars and materials for 2 bathroom remodels.

I have way too much patio furniture to fit in my house lol. It's my outside man cave with a 75in TV. I'll be outside tonight most likely having a cigar and scotch.

Looking to make landfall at Bradenton as a Cat 3 with wind speed appx 120. Unless it jinks North or South at the last minute. I hope it settles down a bit more before it hits the coastline. Any little bit will help.

We are far from the eye of the hurricane but had a nasty tornado pass through. We are fine (running generator) but some major damage 2 blocks away and surrounding areas.

I kept an eye on he wind gusts around Tampa until around 2:00 am. Tampa itself seemed to top out around 87 MPH, about 2 hours after the eye swept past a bit South of there. On the coast (Clearwater, etc) the gusts were hitting more than 100 MPH for several hours.

My son, at the top of McKay Bay, had no visible damage or water intrusion. Power stayed on, except for brownouts, so did internet. He was able to keep track with his Ring cameras.

They actually had more water from Helene, a few inches in the garage. Orlando proved a safe refuge, despite being in the storm's path. Even his car was in an elevated structure. He moved in a year ago (brand new construction), spent a lot of time, effort and money getting the place right, so this was a great outcome. He now has a solid hurricane plan going forward. We think that even the screening on his porch may have survived. Won't know until he get home, about the minor things. But the roof is still there!

It looks like the west coast was somewhat spared the levels of storm surge that were forecasted, but the tornado outbreak, wind and rain events over performed expectations. It's amazing it stayed a full fledge hurricane across the entire state.

The sheer size was biblical! I learned a lot watching this progression on zoom.earth. The higher winds were further out than I expected. And occurring after the storm was farther away.

The storm surge predictions are always spotty and localized. This storm hit he coast at Siesta Key and that is said to help some due to the shallower waters affecting the storm surge in multiple ways. Being South of the storm's path seems to have produced little or even negative surge. I am assuming that a storm coming in at low tide is better than one coming in at high tide.

This could have been much worse for the west coast and thankfully it was not.

Those on the east coast (including those of us inland) mostly worry about storms approaching from the Atlantic, for obvious reasons. What I find interesting is that the 2 most dramatic storms for us personally since we moved into our house in 2002 came from the west coast. We lost our patio screen and had roof damage from Wilma in 2005 which arrived as a Cat 1 or 2 with microbursts. Now Milton brought unprecedented quantity and intensity of tornadoes to various areas, including our town, even though it was relatively far away in terms of hurricane force. Some places like Port St. Lucie and Fort Pierce had major tornado activity, with some loss of lives.

I’m thankful the storm wasn’t worse for the west coast and that we didn’t suffer and damage personally, but definitely think these storms that cross the state are serious business. Hopefully those affected are insured and can move forward now that the storm has passed. I also hope this is the last event for this season.
