My first couple times out I'd been square on the PSI and it understeered like I wasn't turning the wheel. Dropped 1 or so PSI on the rears and that seemed to address the understeer. Then after some in-car time with an instructor he suggested dropping the rears even more. Wound up really liking it—approaching the traction limit feels a bit more progressive, whereas with only the 1PSI difference, grip was there…and then it just wasn't.
Now if only there was something I could do in street class to get wider wheels or useful negative camber up front ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This is super useful information. I was square as well and will consider this approach next time, although since I have a square setup in terms of tire size and wheels it might differ? My rear tires suffered less than the front though, so a difference of pressure seems logical anyways. Thank you so much for sharing!
