While the upcoming M3 won't have the full potential of the drivetrain, some upperclass cars will. But you're right, the M3 won't have Plaid straight line performance.
But the Plaid can't really do anything else than drive in a straight line.

Sceptisism is good, i also am a bit. But I'm also excited for this. It will be faster than G8x M3. It's not something that's impossible.
Plaid is quicker around the ring than m3. It’s an incredibly stupid comment to say it can’t do anything other than drive in a straight line.

Definitely an amazing car so far

I am about to fit her with performance all season tires

Is it? Plaid record lap is 7:30:90 vs the 7:28:76 of the M3. With 120% more power. It's absolutely not a stupid thing to say. A Taycan Turbo with similar power did a 7:07

What’s the value prop for this? Dull, lifeless speed is much cheaper with a Tesla.

Speed in an EV is a rarely used party trick - buy a used Porsche manual for infinitely better value retention and fun (for a lower entry price).

This will be yet another overhyped EV flop destined for big dealer discounts.

I think the car will look cool in the NK chassis and will probably be quite a beast performance wise. I’m on the opposite end of the spectrum (Recently bought a new ‘25 manual G82 and will eventually give that car to one of my kids when I’m too old to drive it)

Hopefully they focus a lot on weight reduction in other parts of the car. Once solid state batteries are ready we’ll see a step change in weight and charging performance.

I’d love it if you could choose your sound profile for the fake engine noise. Ie: old BMW NA inline six, F1 V10, V12, GT3 M4 etc. It would be awesome.

There is actually a lot of real practical value with a performance EV. Rarely used party trick?? There are those of us who actually drive fast every day, and want to fly under the radar of law enforcement. And then on the other extreme, there are those with loud Honda Civics you can hear a block away, that sound like they are going double the speed limit when they are going under it. But that loud, uncorked Civic type R is a "driver's car." Many of us prefer effortless speed to actually drive fast, with instant throttle response. It's also nice not worrying about warming up an engine before doing full throttle acceleration bursts. Being able to go on your phone app and quickly heat or air condition your interior without running a big engine is a nice feature too. I hope there will always be plenty of loud ICE cars around as it is much more entertaining lining up next to one and hear how loudly they wail, crackle and pop, as they struggle to keep up with you. That is long as they don't draw the attention of the cops!

[QUOTE=fanofbmwe46;31845268]Why simulate what we already have? I hate that we are being forced into an EV future. I’m sure this thing will dessimate any analog BMW M… but there is something soulful, authentic, emotional, nostalgic, etc with a mechanically engineered combustion engine with analog components. How are folks who have bought M cars in the past and have a deep connection to the way they used to be coping with this new future?

As BMW already stated, the production of internal combustion engine M3 will continue.
So no one is really forcing anyone into EV. Trump has promised to roll back EV mandates
So rest easy. ICE is here to stay for now

Any car that is 7:2x at the ring is doing far far more than driving fast in a straight line

I agree with the kudos. It is smart for BMW to bring enthusiasts along through the series (not sure if BMW has launched a similar media campaign for previous M models). In my mind it’s their way of acknowledging not all like the idea of or see themselves in an EV M model and attempting to win enthusiasts with $$$ over. I dont think this model will be in the middle class or low end of upper middle class market. It will probably land north of 130s MSRP. I could wrong though.

Like beyond plaid performance ? Absolutely 0 chance. There is a near 0% chance it exceeds current m3 performance , maybe slightly in straight line perf with no way it beats it on track.
The Lucid Sapphire is beyond plaid performance plus it handles extremely well. It’s the fastest production car at the moment. All that and massaging seats. This should be what BMW is striving for.

This looks exciting for an electric M/car.
On the way to a track weekend, I will probably need to bring a gas generator in my diesel truck.

Haha yeah the S55 is especially atrocious but The latest M4 GT3 car sounds pretty good even with a cat. (Just wish they were allowed to rev higher)

Don't worry, the stench of horse shit is rapid on these EV threads.

Lol. Arguing about a 4000 lbs and a 5000 lbs cars ring times? Probably 2% of G cars every see a track and less than that for a Tesla. Make sure you get the CF roof also. It shaves off 2 seconds
