I find the carbon fibre very desirable, it remains subjective I know. The carbon fibre pieces definitely set the car interior apart from regular 2 series cars as the carbon fibre is only available in the G87 (in the Australian marketplace).
That's the thing, I also buy cars long term, my current car is 13 years old and it will continue to be my daily. There's a good chance I will never sell this G87, or if I sell it in 15-20 years or whatever, options won't make much of a difference. I'm even curious how well CF will hold up over a such long period of time.

As you said, it is subjective, and I personally don't care for the CF look, to me it looks like glorified plastic. If I was planning to race or track the car, then I might accept it for its functional purpose, but I'd wager most M buyers don't track and just like its appearance (and hence resale value in your case) but I'm not in that camp. I'm buying a car that suits my taste, not the next person's.

typically the complete opposite is true- in 15-20 years, options will make ALL the difference. an auto moonroof standard color car will be worth next to nothing, while a carbon pack individual car with a 6 speed will always be worth a tidy sum. just look at any old p car, corvette, camaro, even E30s etc- people are highly vested in what the original option packages were and how it left the factory. thats what people will be interested in long term on these cars...

...but right now, all that matters is your taste and that you like it
