Bridgestone 3G RFT's -- New generation run-flat tires addresses RFT complaints

The test stated the 3rd generation tires handled "sloppy". Appears they ride better but don't handle as well as 2nd generation tires ??

"Bridgestone also allowed us to drive a 3G RFT technology-equipped vehicle with a flat tire through a simulated slalom course. The car handled sloppy, and the tire howled when pressed, but it was entirely controllable. Afterwards, the tire wasn't even very hot to the touch."

I believe that was after the tire was punctured....

The test didn't give the whole picture, which is likely by design.

The didn't address sport handling, which is a function of the rubber compounds and the tire carcass design/fabrication e.g., belts, sidewall construction, bead, etc. The other thing they didn't really talk about is fuel mileage.

They need to generate some real test data similar to Consumer reports using a dyno for rolling resistance, and have some experts drive them on a closed course for sport driving comparison. Forget this "seat of the pants" testing.

We were in a controlled environment -- Bridgestone's test track outside Rome, Italy. While I would have enjoyed flogging the tires in the real world, they kept us on a very short leash at the facility. We did drive up into the mountains outside the gates, but (again) they had us playing lead-follow with a pace car.

The 3G (third-generation) tires still have not been released to the public.

they are designed to allow you to drive a resonable distance to get the car tire fixed. They are designed to allow you to safely navigate a busy highway and find a safe garage/tire shop to fix immediately following the puncture.

+1. I wouldn't mind paying 20% over regular tires for this. remember it only take 1 time for you or your family to get kill.

I ordered an X1, sDrive, x-line. Does this car come with a particular brand of run-flat tire or is it hit or miss?
