hey guys,
thanks for all the suggestions, but we ended up actually going with a 2011 white suburban (the top of the line trim style) because we got a crazy deal (msrp was 58k and we got it for 3.5k under msrp + free extended 100k mile warranty + no first payment until april + 2.9% financing for 60 months + they gave us 1.5k more for our trade in (a 2005 suburban with a southern comfort conversion) than origionally appraised for). The payment came out to be in the high $600's for a full finance, which is sick the reason for this is: my mom will be getting a 2011 750li x-drive individual package, LOADED very soon and we already have a 2011 Range Rover HSE, so we just stuck with the utilitarian car (because that's really all that it'll be for) that we can beat up instead of ANOTHER luxury car..

What's the point of paying for it cash up front? Even though it is just a suburban, it's msrp was still 58-59k (M3 price range). That's a stupid statement. We were going to put 20k down on top of our trade in, but since its a little christmas surprise for my dad, my mom didn't want to do that because he might find out somehow in the next 10 days that 20k is missing from one of his bank accounts. also, my parents don't like spending a lot of money on cars, they put their money into other things that they enjoy more.

Touareg TDI 406 lbs ft. at 1750 RPM. That ought to put a smile on your face. If not the sublime interior should. Need more storage, get a Thule box on the roof, take it off when commuting. It also gets 25 MPG on the highway.

Financing = more liquidity (compared to straight up purchase). I certainly am a big fan of liquidity, and the banks have certainly shown us the perils of not having it over the past two years. To me, it's worth paying 3% to have the additional cash... 8% maybe not, but 3% yeah.

congrats on the purchase. Its hard to beat GM's for large SUVs. They are large, very reliable and can be optioned with every feature available (if you "need" those options).

As much as I love the GL and would buy one any day, for what the OP needed there really isn't anything better than a large GM SUV.
