Maybe it's not known to you, but that just means you don't know much or you're thinking about old corvettes. Have you driven a new vette on a track or read about how it performs? In C&D's lightning lap, a non-z06 beat a R8 and a 911 turbo around VIR. The Z06 destroyed everything and even beat the times of the gt3 and ford gt. It might not be as fun to drive or as easy to drive, but it definitely has great handling.

Comon guys, you keep mentioning the name Nissan like its a curse. Nissan, believe it or not for some of you folks, has a long history of sports cars also. The GTR has been around for a long time but just hasn't seen (at least without importing) alot of state side time. I'd gladly pay that much for the GTR, NISSAN or not. |

Planning on getting? Probably not. Definitely a consideration. My heart still longs for a 911. I'd take the GT-R over everything else under $100k though.
As an unbiased car fan, I think the GTR has everybody beat under 100k. There's no doubting this. The only cars that will give it a fight would be your top tier vettes (Z06 and ZR-1 if thats what they choose to name it). I don't understand the E92 M3 comparison... we're talking about a car built from the ground up to be a "supercar." It has nothing to do with badging. I love that its a Nissan. Take the glitz and glamour out of a car and get back to cars meant to be driven. But hey, i'm not rolling in the bread like some of you guys on the forum! If i'm spending that much for a car, it's going to have to do more than go fast. Which is why i'll take the 911 (C2S or GT3). I'll openly admit that the GTR is likely the superior car, though. Whoever gets one in the mid-atlantic needs to bring it to a meet and give us rides.

nice post. You exactly right, the GT-R is going to be a awesome car and if the numbers are correct, it and the Z06 are going to be running neck and neck in just about every performance measurement (although the Z06 will have a higher top speed) at the same price and those 2 cars will be the "under 100K" benchmark until the ZR1 hits the streets and changes the rules again. The GT-R has a back seat which does add a level of practicality that the Z06 or the ZR1 will not possess but I doubt few people who buy the car will be using the back seat. That being said, if the price is $75-80K I would probably buy the GT-R instead of the Z06. If you want Z06 level power and handling, you can buy a regular C6 for 25K less and get it there and beyond for alot cheaper. |

Well I must be one of the few. No back seat in the 'Vette (and Cayman S) is a deal breaker for me. I don't need a big one, just enough to stuff a kid or 2 into for a short trip if for some reason I don't have my truck.

looking at both top gear and 5th gear video of the z06, it runs nurburgring faster then the zonda f? now that surely doesn't make sense to me.
also found this out the designer of the r8 is married to the ceo or porsches daughter. very cool. a r8-rs model with the gallardo v10 is rumored to be released soon too.. |

The RS4 was out 2years ago with virtually the same engine specs, and the GT-R, C63, and upcoming CTS-V all make a strong case in making the new M3 an also ran. |

For the GT-R to beat the C6 Z06 it would need to have around 600hp, since the GT-R weights around 3800 lbs.
It's also 300 lbs heavier than the 997 Turbo, so until I see some REAL evidence, all this is just BS. Rumors are just that..rumors...

The GT-R going to premiere at the Tokyo Motor Show in less than 10 hours. The full specs should surface the web by tomorrow morning.

i don't see why you are all like this because it's a nissan. If BMW released information like this about the M3, we would probably see 3 pages of THAT IS SO AWESOME I LOVE BMW! GT-R's have always been fast cars in their own right, and they're great for tuners to mess with because the engine is so beautifully made. I'm not saying the M3's engine isn't as good, but the GT-R has a much bigger market for the modding community too. It may not be the prettiest car in the world, but who cares when you can go that fast? If it can beat a 911 on the 'ring, I think that's pretty damn impressive already. |

Its number one on the list right now. Timing looks like it will work out perfectly. My current car's loan is up in jan 09. Hopefully by that point the ADMs will be gone.
of course, if nissan decides to screw us Canadians with a 30% mark up over the US price that may change things. |
