Well, we finally have some backyard progress. I have 7 more beams to put up, one in each corner. I got started, got one up, then realized I only had right hand brackets, not half right and half left, clearly I didn't check what Javier (real name btw, I've know him for years) at the lumber yard gave me.

I also had to have a couple of connections re-engineered, so I should be getting the calcs back today or tomorrow so I can go to the city, change the permit, then get an inspection...PITA

anyway, on to the pics. The fences will probably be replaced in the spring, one of them is in pretty bad shape, but why put it in to get messed up this winter.

I finished the framing, and got my engineering updated, I'll visit the city this week. The weather is becoming a bit of an issue, I tarped the framing because we had a little rain. Its supposed to rain again this weekend, but I'm going to try to get the T&G for the roof stained either in the garage or under the tarp.

been doing different marinades for skirt steaks and this one came out pretty good! Worchester sauce, balsamic vinegar, garlic, chili powder and olive oil marinated for about 3 hours. after it was grilled i than heated some Beringer Cabernet Sauvignon in a pan with fresh RoseMary for a few minutes than reduced to 70% and added a pinch of salt and a 1/4 butter and poured it over the meat. Holy moly was it delicious!

****UPDATE****

I've been making progress, my knees, neck, and lower back are not happy. The ceiling is all 2" x 8" T&G, first stained, then cut placed and nailed off. I guess its been about 5 days actually cutting and installing pieces one weekend days when I can (kid parties and such get in the way), but its going well and I'm pleased with how its turning out. My neighbors think I'm insane, many nights after work I'm in the garage staining or moving lumber or some nonsense.

When its 'done' (approved and signed off by the city), I'm going to box in those ugly little rafters and put some recessed lights in the 'false' beams.

I have also bought a BBQ and a side burner, I wanted to spend much less then I did, but when you handle the cheaper one, and really nice one there is no comparison. The burners on these things are bade from cast stainless that is almost 1/4" thick and guaranteed for life, I hate burners that rot out.

I'll keep my pellet cooker too, just not in the pavilion.

Ooh, almost forgot, I ordered a 50" tv, and I got a cool motorized mount that will pull the tv up behind the big horizontal beam and hide it under the eaves when it is not being used, should be pretty slick!

What is remaining of the beams sticking out from under the tarp will be cut off.

I was 3 16' boards short of finishing yesterday. There is a lot of drop with all these 45 degree cuts.

TVs are so cheap these days I'm not super worried about it, and I'm going to build a frame around the thing, when it retracts it will be pretty well boxed in. That along with all the cameras (and night vision scopes) it should be ok

I still remember the first time I went to carneceria with my wife and the dude brought out a fresh tail, then a few minutes later these little discs of meat.

"Honey, we can afford to buy real meat now"

I know you're joking, but does anyone know what happened to him? You don't just go cold turkey after posting as much as he did.

Are you planning on putting up a ceiling fan? It would help somewhat in the summer. But knowing the Bay area, only a month or so gets really hot.
Did you stamp the cement around the pool?
