So I found some orange bitters. Not really sure I could make that myself. Didn't seem like a few shakes would do much for my glass, so I kept shaking. Seems 10-15 shakes is WAY too much for a single glass . . .

Grab a lowball/rocks glass 2 oz bourbon/rye .25-.5oz simple syrup or 1 small cube brown sugar or 1 small cube white sugar 2 dashes of orange bitters/ angostura bitters. Stir. Take an orange, cut a quarter sized thick piece of skin. Grab a lighter, squeeze skin over lighter over the glass. The oil mist of the skin should spark and fall in to the glass. I like to take that skin and rub the rim of the glass. I garnish/stir with a finger width/length of orange peel. I usually use a sphere mold ice cube as it doesn't melt as fast as cubes. Enjoy.

I was at a happy hour last week and had a few glasses of the Pappy 15 at the bar and figured I'd attempt to try to buy a bottle this fall.
Anyone ever do this before? Am I crazy to think I can get a bottle this fall without having to take out a mortgage to get one? |

If you're ever in DC, Smoke & Barrel in DC, $16 a glass, cheapest I've ever been able to find it.
I've been to others that charge $25-$30 for a glass. They don't have any specials on it for HH, it just so happened to be HH and I ordered a glass...several once I was told how much it was. |

Yeah mine was just for 1 oz. I contemplated long and hard the consequences of taking the bottle and running as fast as I could since he set it down right in front of me while I was drinking it.

Went on the Jack Daniel's distillery tour last week. Their new "Angels' Share" tour gives samples of their top-shelf offerings at the end.
The Sinatra Select is every bit as bold, smoky, and in-your-face as it claims to be. If that's your thing, might be worth the $150 for a limited run bottle. Certainly good, but it was a little much for me. Single Barrel Select was a solid offering. A good sipper for sure. Could definitely see it being a "go to" drink. But not quite as good as... Single Barrel - Barrel Proof. Exactly what it sounds like, straight out of the barrel and not diluted at all. I thought this was outstanding. If it's even possible, this tasted just as smooth as the Barrel Select with the flavors cranked up a notch, and not even close to as "hot" as you might expect a 130 proof whiskey to be. Picked my self up a bottle of this. Single Barrel Rye was exceptionally smooth and hardly belongs in the same category as the others mentioned, just a different style altogether. I really enjoyed it and I could see it being a good mixer. |
