If it makes you feel better, I pay $99.95 for the Ardbeg 10 over here in Canada. But it really is a good Islay, I constantly have it in my cabinet...and if I drain it, I'm always replacing it within a week or two.

Might want to try Ardbeg Corryvreckan, Bruichladdich Heavily Peated varieties if you like more peat (and Laphroaig, if you haven't tried that already - Quarter Cask is probably best for the $$).

I love the Wall-Street style pricing tracker. It is a perfect addition to my warehousing, now I may have to graph some old pricing data. After getting bitten by a currency-exchange bump back around 2010, I started buying ahead when I find a good price - I figure it is just another investment in commodities, since prices rise up about 5% per year. And the pile in the basement gives the cats another place to climb. Good luck finding a sale (my 'buy price' is about 40-42 euro's here stateside, so those listings aren't terrible).

Pretty much anything Ardbeg is good, although also sometimes overpriced, depending.

As a personal preference however, I prefer the Lagavulin 8 yr over the Laphroig quarter cask though. They are the same price point here...and the Lagavulin just speaks to me a little more. Nothing wrong with a Laphroig though!

I also prefer Lagavulin and Ardbeg over the Laphroig. I find most of the Lagavulin to be similar but there is a lot of variety in the Ardbeg. Corryvreckan is one I did not enjoy much upon opening as there was just too much going on, but after a few months of breathing I have really started to enjoy it more. I do like the slightly lighter peat and fruit notes so most of the other Ardbegs do it for me (An Oa, Uidegail, and most of the Ardbeg Day releases).

Guys brought Home a bottle of Macallan 15 and it’s ok. I’m usually a JW Blue drinker but they were out. Actually got better with a single ice cube.

Wising is sprung for the 18. The 25 at 299 or 359 is a bit much for me unless I know I’ll enjoy.

Looking for a place to buy a few airplane bottle sizes of some expensive scotches.

Any suggestions.

Glenrothes 2001 - This was also excellent, but not as good as the Auchentoshan.

You're right, I really enjoyed the classic cut with a splash of water, a very good offering from Macallan. Nice recommendation - it was something I'd eyed for a bit, but never pulled the trigger given its priced at $160 till I heard some good things about it.

See my post being commented on by Jokerr above. The Macallans over 12yr are good, but in my opinion not worth the extra cost. The Classic cut is a cask strength bottle and so much better and at a lower price.

Any of the cask strengths are good.

A great 'mid price' that I really enjoy also is the Dalmore 12. Runs around $70 or so.

I’d return this Maccalin 15 if I could. Way to harsh for a 15 y/o.

The Jonny walker Blue is still my favorite however I’m looking to expand my Exoeriece and you never know what’s better out there if you don’t try.

To many of my fancy friends have single malt single track minds. I like my blended blue so far.

Would love to find a place to buy 4oz sizes of 6-8 scotches on my list.

Lucky for me My kids (quarantined at my home for now) drink whatever I have on hand and just ask me what they should not take. Looks like I’ll turn them loose on the macallan 15 tonight.

Where did you buy it? If it’s from Total Wine or Bevmo you can call the store and talk to the manager. They should let you return it. I did once recently at Total Wine on a cheaper bottle of Templeton (tasted off for some reason). I exchanged it for a bottle of Glenmorangie.

I have a bottle of Chivas Regal 18 that blows the Mcallan 15 away for 1/2 the price. I’m thinking the Macallan line is all name. I tasted the 12 at a friends and was unimpressed that’s why I bought the Macallan 15. Perhaps I’ll see if I can trade it up to a JW Blue.

Everyone's tastes are different. You like Chivas / JB Blue, I like Macallan. Doesn't really matter, its a good thing really. But that's why I always hesitate to strongly recommend a scotch since everyone has a different palette. But I have no problem telling people what I've enjoyed, and if they pick it up and enjoy it, well great! But at least it isn't a strong recommendation.

Agree with Joker. Everyone’s taste is different hence I hesitate to spend $150-200 on a bottle knowing there’s a chance I might hate it. Would only do that after I have tasted it.

Chivas 18 vs Mac 15? Which Mac 15? There are two - Triple Cask and Double Cask... both are stellar in my mind although the chivas is not bad. As far as the 12's, I havent had anything superior to Macallan... Dalmore 12 coming the closest.

Like a few pages back, Plantation was all the rave for a rum. The first time I could barely stand it, had to pour in some coke. BUT, last weekend, after it had sat for several weeks after being opened, it was far more enjoyable.
