These ancient Scots Pines, known as 'Granny Pines' were shot in Glen Affric.

The same trees that sheltered Bonnie Prince Charlie when he hid from government troops are still growing here today. These same trees have harboured wolves and bear, both now disappeared from Scotland, although there are plans to reintroduce wolves to certain parts of the Highlands. Out of all Britain's landscapes, only the arctic-alpine summits of the mountains are in as natural state as this.

We have some pines here in California which are up to 5,000 years old. I've yet to go there but will do now when there is a bit of snow on the mountains. The biggest problem is that it is some 10-14,000 feet in altitude.

But seriously, I think the old pine forests of Scotland were probably much denser than now.
Where I live, we have pine forests close by and every year the winter storms claim a few as they are, for such big trees, very shallow rooted.

Half way to LA lunch stop. Central coast wine country around Paso Robles California is a great place to explore. Calcareous winery has a great picnic area with a view.

I wonder why they aren't regenerating. Maybe it's drier there than it used to be. It hard to imagine bonnie prince Charlie finding much refuge there. You'd be able to see him from the valley below, these days.

Big Buck at ISO 4000:

I posted this large so that you can see how well DxO's PRIME noise reduction preserves detail while ridding noise. I shot this with the 7D MkII, which starts getting pretty noisy Raw files at ISO 1600, but PRIME really cleans them up nicely. PRIME does a pixel by pixel analysis. I used the default setting here.

Hand held at 1/1000-sec.

DxO's Prime NR software obviously does an excellent job.

Great shot of the canyon horses Ed., nice variations in colour.

Scott, I love your NY night time cityscape. Shot at the right time with still some blue left in the sky. My favourite time to shoot.
